Job Summary

Position Summary

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of survivors of domestic violence Laurel House is seeking a compassionate motivated Shelter Advocate to join our this role you will provide direct support counseling and advocacy to adults and their children residing in our Safe Haven Center shelter. Youll also play an important role in fostering a safe welcoming environment and representing Laurel House in the community.

This is a full-time position (MondayFriday) offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day.

What Youll Do

Provide individual counseling options counseling and advocacy to clients in shelter.
Support hotline callers with crisis counseling safety planning referrals and resources.
Help residents with goal planning domestic violence education and safety strategies.
Ensure shelter security safety and a supportive environment for residents and children.
Facilitate group programming with colleagues to build community and promote healing.
Participate in community outreach and represent Laurel House at events.
Collaborate closely with the Shelter Manager and counseling team to meet client needs.

What Were Looking For

Experience supporting survivors of domestic violence trauma or crisis response (preferred).
Ability to de-escalate problem-solve and respond effectively in challenging situations.
Strong commitment to diversity equity and working respectfully with marginalized populations.
Bachelors degree in social services or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Residential/shelter experience preferred.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish and/or ASL) a plus.
Detail-oriented organized and proficient in Microsoft Office.
A motivated team player with a passion for the mission of Laurel House.
