Job Summary

The primary function of this position is to serve as a Regional Lead Technician. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Prior experience and advanced skills in at least two of the following areas: ASU CO2 or on-site process plant operations.
  • Prior experience commissioning new assets and/or efficiency projects.
  • Prior experience and advanced skills in maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical machinery.
  • Intermediate skills in leadership process instrumentation and controls and basic electrical skills.

Principal Responsibilities

Safety

  • Understand and adhere to company safe work policies.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the Safety Health Environmental and Quality programs including and up to participating in plant audits.
  • Apply the hazardous work permit (HWP) process lockout-tagout (LOTO) and energy isolation procedures as required for company and contractor personnel.
  • Follow management of change (MOC) procedures for all changes to process and operating procedures.
  • Direct and monitor contractors.
  • Lead and participate in operations maintenance and safety meetings.
  • Participate in safety committee activities as required.
  • Promote and utilize Messers Risk Management tools to identify and mitigate risks.

Reliability and Maintenance

  • Lead operations support activities during commissioning of new assets
  • Follow work instructions and annotate with feedback.
  • Set up and safely operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned work.
  • Effectively prioritize schedule and coordinate internal/external resources to complete work activities including TARs and major outages.
  • Perform and document process and product analyzers calibration checks.
  • Instrumentation & Controls (Once Certified):
    • Perform intermediate troubleshooting of instrumentation and control valves.
    • Calibrate configure and/or replace field instrumentation devices.
    • Install commission and troubleshoot control valves.
    • Implement plant improvement projects involving the installation of new instrumentation control valves and analyzers including associated conduit tubing and wiring.
    • Perform troubleshooting of process control systems.
    • Troubleshoot and repair process control equipment.
    • Functionally test or troubleshoot instrument or electrical control loops through field devices to verify proper operation and maintain proper field documentation.
  • Electrical (Once Certified)
    • Perform intermediate troubleshooting of electrical systems.
    • Install and repair electrical equipment control circuits.
    • Perform LOTO of electrical systems and confirm zero energy.
  • Mechanical (Once Certified):
    • Perform advanced troubleshooting of mechanical equipment (pumps compressors).
    • Complete advanced mechanical equipment repairs including invasive teardowns and rebuilds (Expanders refrigeration units cryogenic pumps).

Process Operation and Efficiency

  • Lead shutdowns start-ups de-rimes production state changes for plant(s) and PSSR activities.
  • Complete the ROC ASU process training qualification.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)(SAP).
  • Troubleshoot process problems to identify equipment requiring maintenance including use of Parcview and CBM data.
  • Perform water treatment analysis and associated tasks.
  • Document activities and data in the plant electronic logbook and SAP system.
  • Develop new and/or modify existing SOPs for new assets commissioning plans and final documentation.
  • Proficient in Messer Quality systems and procedures.
  • Ability to fill in for shift vacancies when required accept on-call duty and overtime as required.

People / Interpersonal

  • Strong leadership skills that naturally engage others to follow.
  • Maintain open line of communication with manager and other stakeholders.
  • Support new employees and entry-level technicians through coaching and mentoring.
  • Effectively navigate Messers internal functional groups external vendors and act as a liaison in certain situations.
  • Champion a continuous improvement culture through support activities and challenging the status quo.

Do you have what it takes

You will need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in a related process plant operations maintenance or reliability activity.
  • Valid drivers license

Required Skills:

  • Math -Basic algebra fractions/percentages unit conversion.
  • Personal computer proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work alone.
  • High mechanical aptitude and ability to work with simple mechanics hand tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of chemical manufacturing hazards.
  • Familiarity with common process equipment and their functions.
  • Understanding of basic electrical hazards and safety and skills in troubleshooting electrical systems with support from subject matter experts.
  • Instrumentation: Ability to troubleshoot 4-20 mA transmitter and electro-pneumatic control loops.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs and PFDs.
  • Able to navigate a document management system to find relevant work instructions forms and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to complete advanced preventive maintenance tasks according to best practices.
  • Capable of operating a forklift and/or overhead crane and/or man lift.
  • Certificate in technical discipline or recent military training in a technical field.
  • Electrical: Ability to interpret electrical drawings including single-line diagrams and rack in/out 480V and 4160 V breakers. qualifications QEP Level II.
  • Understanding of trip and interlock logic protecting people and equipment.
  • Instrumentation and Controls: Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic control systems consisting of I/Ps solenoid valves quick exhausts actuators regulators and proportional/integral controllers both stand-alone and cascaded.
  • Instrumentation and Electrical: Be familiar with codes and standards associated with wiring and conduit.
  • ISA Level II certification or the ability to obtain one in two years.

Other Qualifications:

  • Physically able to perform all duties required which may involve among other things; bending stooping kneeling climbing ladders and lifting and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb to heights 200 ft above grade and work effectively.
  • Reside within a reasonable distance of the plant.
  • Capable of distinguishing different colors.
  • Ability to travel nationally up to 60% of the time.
