The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking an Audit Manager to help lead our newly developed Rapid Response Division. This position will oversee the completion of audits that improve performance strengthen accountability and enhance transparency among North Carolina government programs.


OSA is the states Fiscal Watchdog. We hold state government and entities that receive public money accountable working on behalf of North Carolinians to eliminate waste fraud and abuse.

As part of our team you will get to:

  • Plan and conduct investigations and performance audits under the supervision of the Rapid Response Director
  • Manage audits of a diverse range of topics and programs
  • Speak with auditees agency management legislators and other stakeholders to understand the programs under an audit
  • Learn more about state and federal agencies programs statutes rules regulations and policies
  • Prepare findings and audit reports that provide timely useful and actionable information and recommendations
  • Lead a team that complete audits in compliance with professional standards internal policies and procedures and performance audit best practices

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • A bachelors degree in accounting finance or a related field
    • Advanced degrees or certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) is preferred
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills to review financial data for inconsistencies and discrepancies
  • Ability to ensure accuracy in financial reporting and analysis
  • Demonstrated experience supervising others or managing group projects
  • Strong experience in report writing

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 5 years of experience in auditing/accounting or program evaluation one of which must have been functioning as an audit lead or supervisor

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience
