What youll do

Responsibilities

What you will be doing

  • Reporting to the Academic Chair School of Trades and Transportation and under the direct supervision of the Metal Fabrication program Faculty you will provide laboratory/shop program and administrative support for the Pathways to Shipbuilding program.
  • You will maintain the laboratory/shop by managing the lab/shop environment media and/or equipment preparation and maintenance of the inventory system for lab/shop supplies. Additionally you will assist with lab/shop demonstrations; provide administrative preparation for the lab/shop assist with technology needs including computers; and work with students Faculty and staff in a laboratory/shop setting.
  • You will also assist in classroom and lab/shop demonstrations and prepare projects and mock-ups in advance of the need. You will assist Faculty with the safe operation of tools and equipment and safe work practices.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant post-secondary diploma or certification in Metal Fabrication or Welding.
  • In addition you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid CPR and discipline relevant safety training or you have a willingness to obtain within the first year.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in Metal Fabrication or Welding.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite E-mail Brightspace or other Learning Management Systems would be considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset
