Job Description
Augustana University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall of 2026. We seek to hire an innovative faculty member who can help imagine future programmatic directions as well as contribute to curriculum innovation. This position offers the rare opportunity to design laboratory spaces select equipment and play a central role in shaping the programs vision and curriculum. A PhD in Engineering or a closely related discipline in hand or with imminent completion by the appointment start date is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Engineering programs course offerings at both introductory and advanced levels.
- Assist in the development of ABET accredited curriculum and laboratory experiences for a new B.S. in Engineering program.
- Maintain an active research agenda that can engage undergraduate students.
- Conduct service to the university including program development and outreach to regional industry and community partners.
- Advise and mentor students through a liberal artsintegrated engineering education.
- Maintain a commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Requirements
- PhD in Engineering or a closely related discipline earned or in imminent completion by the appointment start date.
- Demonstrated record of effective teaching ability.
- Demonstrated effective written oral communication and/or presentation skills.
Candidates with a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture--especially the role of the liberal arts in shaping thoughtful ethical and innovative engineerswill be given priority consideration. We seek colleagues who have a demonstrated ability to create meaningful working relationships with students faculty and leadership from diverse backgrounds and points of view and who are eager to help students connect technical expertise with communication creativity and ethical reasoning. Evidence or interest in employing innovative teaching and active learning techniques as well as helping students make connections between engineering and the broader human experience is valued by the university.
