Established by the state legislature in 1934 LCRA plays a vital role in Texas by generating and distributing electric power across the region. Additionally the organization oversees the lower Colorado River and the Highland Lake dams while managing over 40 recreational sites spanning 11000 acres of parkland. LCRAs Cultural Resources team upholds state and federal cultural resource regulations safeguarding a growing collection of 500 archaeological sites on LCRA properties.
You will be trusted to:
- Perform work by traveling independently or with a small crew to various sites and LCRA locations as needed.
- Gather and analyze cultural resource site data in order to evaluate archeological sites and present recommendations to project managers and regulatory agencies.
- Conduct artifact analyses process artifacts record and prepare them for curation. Organize and file incoming materials. Record information into appropriate databases.
- Write moderately complex cultural resource survey and excavation reports with some guidance from supervisor for submission to the Texas Historical Commission and other regulatory agencies.
- Serve as a resource to project managers and other stakeholders by providing input on cultural resource regulations and review issues concerning routine and moderately complex construction/development projects. May provide cost estimates to project managers for cultural resource assessments. May provide oversight of work conducted by cultural resource contractors.
- Work with other cultural resource staff members in compiling the LCRAs Annual Report of Cultural Resource Investigations each calendar year for submission to the Texas Historical Commission.
You qualify with:
- Masters degree in anthropology archeology or related field plus one or more years of experience in archeology.
- Drivers license
You are a great fit with:
- Two or more years of professional experience within Cultural Resources Management preferably at a crew chief level or higher.
- Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other relevant federal and state regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate findings to project managers and non-archaeologists.
- Experience with GIS data collection and mapping.
- Knowledge of the prehistory and history of Texas.
