Job Description Summary
The Chemical Inventory Technician supports the schools mission and vision by safely and efficiently managing the chemical inventory storage handling and transportation for Chapman University School of Pharmacy Research Labs. This position documents the incoming supplies orders for laboratories clinical experiences and educational programming needs. The Chemical Handling & Documentation Technician is a member of the Research and Graduate Programs Office within the School of Pharmacy and is located at the Rinker Graduate Health Science Campus in Irvine CA.
Responsibilities
Chemical Safety Inventory Storage Handling and Transportation: Physically receive chemicals & supplies daily from shipments Ensure all received chemicals are entered into the Chimera chemical inventory database (prior to individual lab pickup) Ensure proper labeling containment storage monitoring and disposal of chemicals in faculty research laboratories and the core lab facilities Transfer chemicals from downstairs chemical storage room to the Pharmacy delivery room during low-traffic hours (before 8:30 AM or at/after 5:00 PM) Coordinate with Environmental Health & Safety Office to enforce safety regulations limit the quantity of chemicals to a reasonable amount on campus and arrange for waste pickup Laboratory Supply Receipt Inventory and Transfer: Arrange notification to individual laboratories for chemical and supply pickup Maintain and enter all received orders in logbook and monitor laboratory pickup/receipt in logbook when items are retrieved Document the receipt of all supplies and chemicals ordered on a Purchase Order within the PeopleSoft finance database Coordinate with Clinical Faculty to manage inventory and order supplies for the Compounding Lab Vaccination Clinic and other Clinical faculty needs Other School or Laboratory Needs: Assist when needed to guide students in using the autoclave Prepare FedEx shipping documents and call for pickup Assist in various activities such as Annual Research Day Commencement activities and other CUSP related activities as requested and when available Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
BS in Biological or Chemical Sciences with three years of laboratory research experience Understanding of the research environment and proven ability to independently conduct and complete assigned responsibilities Strong understanding of lab safety procedures with the ability to maintain a safe and organized lab Basic knowledge of environmental health and safety is needed to coordinate and enforce safety regulations Ability to pick up 25-30 lbs of weight and transport materials in the process of chemical receiving Basic knowledge of laboratory instruments in a pharmaceutical environment. Ability to guide faculty and students in the core facility services Excellent written and verbal skills Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships Ability to effectively address and manage conflict Ability to work collaboratively with other interdisciplinary roles and cultivate inter-professional relationships Strong analytical and organizational skills to sort and prioritize deadlines and work within the office to ensure timeliness and accuracy
