Job Description

SUMMARY: An employee in this position is responsible for providing administrative and operational supervisory services to the Omaha Children and Family Services Case Management Program staff. Supervisors ensure workers adhere to tribal state and federal laws codes and regulations emphasizing safety best practices and cultural considerations. They direct Case Management program operations aligning policies with program goals through consultation and problem resolution while overseeing staff assignments training and performance evaluations to maintain efficient service delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to a team of case workers ensuring adherence to agency policies procedures and best practices.
  • Monitor and review case files and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and agency standards.
  • Identify training needs for case workers and facilitate ongoing professional development to enhance their skills and knowledge in child welfare practices.
  • Assign cases to case workers based on workload expertise and caseload capacity ensuring equitable distribution and effective case management.
  • Conduct case reviews and audits to assess the quality of services provided identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Offer support guidance and mentorship to case workers assisting them in handling complex cases managing crises and making difficult decisions.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment encouraging communication cooperation and mutual assistance among case workers.
  • Provide consultation and advice to case workers on difficult cases legal issues and ethical dilemmas leveraging expertise and experience to support decision-making.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of case activities assessments interventions and outcomes in accordance with agency standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of children and families involved in the CFS system ensuring their voices are heard and their interests are represented.
  • Collaborate with other agencies professionals and supervisors involved in child welfare such as law enforcement schools healthcare providers and community organizations.
  • Serve as a liaison between case workers and the court system preparing reports attending hearings and providing testimony as needed to support legal proceedings.
  • Oversee data collection analysis and reporting related to case management activities outcomes and performance metrics.
  • Assist in implementation of agency policies protocols and procedures related to child protection and family services ensuring consistent application and compliance.
  • Mediate conflicts and resolve disputes among team members promoting constructive communication and collaboration.
  • Coordinate services and resources for children and families including counseling medical care housing assistance and financial support to meet their needs and promote stability.
  • Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives contributing feedback and ideas for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of CFS services.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for case workers providing feedback on strengths areas for improvement and professional development goals.
  • Collaborate with case workers to establish clear achievable goals and objectives for case management aligned with agency priorities and client needs.
  • Monitor caseloads and workload distribution among case workers adjusting assignments as needed to maintain manageable workloads and prevent burnout.
  • Hold regular individual and team meetings with case workers to discuss case progress address challenges and provide guidance on case management strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of agency policies protocols and procedures related to child welfare and family services
  • Facilitate ongoing training and professional development opportunities for case workers keeping them informed of changes in laws regulations and best practices.
  • Offer emotional support and counseling to case workers dealing with challenging cases or personal stressors promoting resilience and well-being.
  • Represent the agency in meetings conferences and community events related to child welfare and family services advocating for agency priorities and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • AA degree preferred; or a minimum of two years experience in social work psychology sociology counseling guidance psychology child development or related field.
  • NFOCUS State DHHS training experience.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must have Valid Drivers License and be insurable by Tribal insurance
  • Must pass a Nebraska Child Abuse & Neglect Central Registry and Nebraska Adult Protection Service Central Registry.
  • Must be free of any conviction by any State or the United States for a crime punishable by imprisonment in a penitentiary for a term of one (1) year or more or by any foreign government for a crime which would be punishable by imprisonment for a term of one year or more if committed in Nebraska or must have been pardoned for such offense or have had a conviction for offense overturned or reversed by a court of competent jurisdiction.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of workforce supervision; the principles and essential reasoning behind practices of direct case management including assessment analyzing critical information plan development and implementation; the importance of families/individuals having normal life experiences that are consistent with age gender culture and community setting
  • Knowledge of the value and importance of families/individuals having the right and ability to make decisions; federal laws and regulations concerning confidentiality release of client information and social service delivery.
  • Knowledge of practices of social work; tribal federal and state laws regulations and guidelines concerning service delivery.
  • Skill in interviewing clients to collect and elicit essential information and assess customer needs and progress; openly and honestly discussing concerns with others in a non-judgmental way.
  • Ability to plan assign direct and evaluate the work of subordinate staff; protect confidential information; communicate electronically on paper or in person.
