Job Description

Position Title

PRN Speech Language Pathologist - Inpatient

Orr-Major

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Speech Language Pathologist - Rehab Services works as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team. They perform an individualized evaluation design goal-directed customized interventions to improve the patients cognitive function swallow safety and ability to communicate. They periodically review the patients performance to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Must be able to perform the professional clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking interpersonal relationships and technical skills.
    a) Evaluates patients in clinical area served. Therapist considers all aspects of the patient including the physical psychosocial developmental and cultural needs. Evaluation results are communicated to the physician family and other team members in a clear and concise manner.
    b) Develops and implements treatment plans using appropriate problem-solving skills and clinical reasoning. The therapist serves as a resource to staff members and students.
    c) Documentation is clear and concise and in compliance with departmental KSHA and ASHA guidelines and regulatory requirements from third party payers.
    d) Demonstrates understanding of regulatory requirements as it pertains to the clinical area served.

  • Follows all departmental policies procedures and standards.
  • Meets all state requirements for continuing education with the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
  • Demonstrates good rapport with patients and professionalism with other professionals patients and visitors.
  • Demonstrates willingness to help out in all areas and recognize the needs of the entire department.
  • May provide supervision for rehabilitation technicians including communication of results of patient evaluation as well as treatment plan and implementation.
  • May provide educational programs through in-services to the rehab services department or interdisciplinary colleagues and teaching to the SLP students.
  • May provide student supervision for clinical students utilizing a wide variety of supervisory styles to enhance student learning.
  • May assist to develop collect and analyze performance improvement data.
  • Assumes responsibility for risk and safety issues associated with position.
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Takes responsibility for own learning needs.
  • Participates as a member of a team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Brings ideas/concerns to supervisor.
  • Must be able to perform the professional clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Masters Degree in Communication Disorders or equivalent from an accredited college or university

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (Health Occupations Credentialing) Kansas licensure as a speech pathologist through the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KSDADS).
