Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) is seeking a dedicated part-time Psychiatrist to join our team. This role provides high-quality evidence-based psychiatric services to individuals at SEVTC and their families. The Psychiatrist will play a key role in diagnosis treatment planning and medication management while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the best outcomes for those in our care.

Job Duties

  • Conducts initial psychiatric evaluation and status changes.
  • Ensures that psychiatric history and mental status exams are completed according to SEVTC Policy CMS Standards or other regulatory agencies.
  • Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational psychopharmacological practices and documents response to treatment and obtains consent or substitute consent in a timely manner.
  • Regularly assesses and addresses side-effects and reports adverse drug reactions.
  • Monitors patients progress including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
  • Ensures timely and quality documentation in the individual and patient/ Problem Oriented Record records in accordance with policies procedures regulatory standards and guidelines and that which is reflective of active treatment.
  • Ensures timely complete and documentation of physician treatment planning orders and actions.
  • Demonstrates leadership customer service respect openness and responsiveness to the needs of others.

Note: This position is considered essential personnel and requires availability during facility needs or emergencies. All SEVTC positions may require different shifts and/or overtime as requested.

This position is hourly/wage and not eligible for state benefits. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than 29 hours a week and are limited to working 1500 hours in a year.

Skills and experience required:

We seek a candidate with knowledge of current psychiatric practices and trends preferably related to child and adolescent psychiatry. We also seek the following:

  • Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams to include resident families.
  • Ability and skill to work with referring facilities and community professionals.
  • Ability to manage general medical care in collaboration with the Medical Director and nursing.
  • Experience with diagnostic evaluations medication management and behavioral therapy.
  • Experience in pharmacotherapy practices.
  • Board certification or board eligible in General Psychiatry.
  • License from the VA State Board of Medicine (Employment is contingent upon receipt of license from the VA State Board of Medicine.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration License required.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with Electronic Health Record preferred.
  • Completion from an approved residency in General Psychiatry although note required completion of an approved fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Board certification or Board eligible in Child and Adolescent psychiatry is preferable.
