Job Description

TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FOOD SERVICES 1.20 QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Three (3) years employment in Food Service finance or two (2) years employment in finance and graduation from an approved school of business or an equivalent combination of experience and training. 2. Possess excellent written and oral communication skills. 3. Experience in initiating coordinating and maintaining of records. 4. Possess the necessary computer skills including MS Word Excel Point of Sale System and other related programs. 5. Appreciation and working knowledge of the preparation and serving of food in an institutional setting. 6. Fundamental fondness for children and a desire to work in a public school 7. Understanding of the National School Lunch Program including the coordination of all State Forms State and Federal Reimbursement. 8. Possess the ability to interact with subordinates in a professional manner. 9. Possess the ability to make judgments as to the quality and appearance of food in a timely manner. 10. Must possess a sense of humor. 11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Department may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Director of Food Services SUPERVISES: All school Food Service personnel. JOB GOAL: 1. Coordinate maintenance of the records and assist in the overall administration of the School Lunch Program. 2. Recognize the financial realities in a School Lunch Program while maintaining a coherent pleasant efficient work force. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to): 1. Prepares monthly State Reports Profit and Loss Statements and maintaining ledgers of payments and disbursements. Prepares payroll and maintains payroll records. 4. Consults with the Director of Food Services on any problems or changes as they occur. 5. Visits all schools in a timely fashion to insure the integrity of the Program is being adequately maintained. 6. Interviews screens and recommends appointment of all Food Service personnel. 7. Assists in negotiations of labor contracts affecting Food Service employees. 8. Coordinates daily assignments of substitutes. 9. Advertises and recruits staff. 10. Evaluates job performance of selected Food Service employees. 11. Assigns and supervises work of cafeteria employees. 12. Keeps time and attendance records of Food Service employees. 13. Encourages and maintains a good working relationship with stakeholders. 14. Receives suggestions from student groups and staff regarding food preferences. 15. Oversees the operation of a Point of Sale computer program in all schools. 16. Stimulates critical discussions with the primary people responsible for the production of all foods within the program. 17. Assists in the preparation of bid specifications and conditions for all items requiring such bids by law or School Committee policy. 18. In the absence of the Director of Food Services assume his/her responsibilities. 19. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Food Services. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with procedures established by the School Committee. SALARY: To be commensurate with annual salary schedule established by the School Committee for unaffiliated staff.
