OVERVIEW AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Payroll Supervisor leads a team of Payroll Specialists ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services for all AFA clients employees and vendors. This role is responsible for the day-to-day supervision coaching and professional development of team members while serving as a subject matter expert (SME) and escalation point for complex payroll issues. The Supervisor fosters a high-performance team culture focused on quality accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Supervise and support Payroll Specialists in daily payroll operations providing clear direction workload management and coaching to drive team performance.
    Ensure all team members have the necessary training resources and support to perform their roles effectively and deliver exceptional client service.
    Act as the second-tier SME for payroll processes guiding team members through complex issues and ensuring adherence to established procedures.
    Monitor audit and validate payroll data for accuracy and compliance; collect and analyze information to resolve discrepancies.
    Handle escalated inquiries from team members clients and internal partners ensuring timely and effective resolution.
    Maintain payroll operations by upholding policies procedures and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    Protect confidential payroll and employee information by adhering to strict data privacy protocols.
    Partner with the Payroll Manager to lead team initiatives including process improvements documentation updates and training programs.
    Oversee and manage garnishment setups payroll batch locks ACH returns stop payments and other critical payroll functions.
    Facilitate ongoing training and skill development for team members ensuring continuous growth and readiness for expanded responsibilities.
    In the absence of the Payroll Manager lead the team by delegating tasks managing workloads and ensuring departmental objectives are met.
    Assist with scheduling mentoring hiring performance management and conflict resolution within the team.
    Prepare and deliver performance evaluations for direct reports providing constructive feedback and development plans.
    Prioritize and allocate resources to meet deadlines in high-volume time-sensitive environments.
    Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to resolve operational issues and support broader organizational goals.
    Maintain vigilance in adhering to Acumens cybersecurity policies procedures and best practices.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years of experience in payroll processing
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or team leadership role
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to coach mentor and develop team members
  • High attention to detail and time management in deadline-driven environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel Word and email platforms
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced high-pressure environment
  • High standard of integrity and sound business ethics
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside standard business hours based on workload demands

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or completion of accounting/payroll coursework
  • Experience supervising teams within a payroll or finance operations environment
  • Exposure to payroll systems and workforce management platforms
