Position Summary:
The High School Ski Coach is responsible for planning organizing and overseeing all aspects of the schools ski program. The coach will work with student-athletes to develop skiing skills foster teamwork and sportsmanship ensure athlete safety and represent the school at competitions.
Key Responsibilities:
Training & Development
- Plan and conduct regular ski practices focused on technique conditioning and safety.
- Teach skiing fundamentals racing strategies and course navigation (alpine or Nordic depending on the program).
- Provide constructive feedback to athletes to improve performance.
Team Management
- Supervise athletes during all practices events and travel.
- Maintain discipline team morale and a positive team culture.
- Enforce school and athletic department policies and codes of conduct.
Competition & Events
- Coordinate team participation in meets races and tournaments.
- Organize team logistics including transportation equipment and race entries.
- Attend and coach at all scheduled competitions.
Safety & Risk Management
- Always promote safe skiing practices.
- Monitor weather and hill conditions and make informed decisions regarding safety.
- Respond appropriately to injuries or emergencies.
Communication & Administration
- Communicate effectively with athletes parents school administration and ski area staff.
- Keep accurate records of attendance performance and injuries.
- Assist with fundraising budgeting and managing ski team expenses.
Qualifications:
- Prior competitive skiing or coaching experience.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of ski racing rules techniques and safety standards.
- Ability to work outdoors in winter weather conditions.
- Preferred CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass background checks as required by the school district.
