Job Summary

Opportunity Summary:

This internship offers hands-on experience working with adults with severe mental illness who are receiving psychiatric stabilization services at our Residential Crisis program. Interns will work directly with individuals served supporting case managers and direct-care staff in providing stabilization services and learning how to address client needs in a crisis setting. Training and experience will include case management treatment planning crisis intervention discharge planning and facilitating therapeutic groups alongside staff. This opportunity provides a comprehensive view of community mental health care focusing on building practical skills while making a direct impact in the lives of those in recovery.

Opportunity time frame:

The time frame for fall depends on how quickly the intern completes their 120 hours. The hours vary from 16-24 hours a week. Start date is flexible depending on semester.

Eligibility requirements:

Current undergraduate at Towson University; Majoring in psychology or a similar human services pathway; willingness to learn and engage.

Learning model:

Training packets handouts one-on-one meetings with a supervisor training with case managers and rehab specialists. Check-ins on what they want to learn and focus on that we can assist with at the program.

Student expectations:

During the internship the intern can expect direct experience working with adults with severe mental illness in a residential crisis setting assisting staff in providing stabilization services. Student expectations include self-directed learning; independently seeking learning opportunities and feedback managing their own schedule and adaptability. Readiness to learn from all experiences. Patience and compassion when working with this population as our individuals are in crisis.
