About the role
Were looking for a talented and motivated leader to join our Visitor Experiences Group as Manager - Venues and Events.
Based across the War Memorial Centre Royal Whanganui Opera House and Cooks Gardens Events Centre youll lead a team of venue and technical professionals delivering everything from major concerts and festivals to community celebrations. This is a pivotal role - balancing strategic growth with hands-on operational delivery. Youll have the chance to shape unforgettable event experiences while growing Whanganuis reputation as a destination.
Youll report to the Manager Visitor Experiences and be a key part of the wider Customer Experiences Group.
What youll bring
- Proven experience managing venue or event operations at a senior level
- Strong leadership and people management skills in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organisational financial and logistical management ability
- Stakeholder relationship management skills across diverse and complex networks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and present with impact
- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Diploma of Management or similar) or equivalent experience
Desirable:
- Event Management or related qualification
- Experience in the events arts hospitality or entertainment industry
- Local government or public sector experience
- Knowledge of Te Ao Mori and tikanga
- Asset and facilities management experience
