How youll contribute

The Nurse Educator/Infection Preventionist provides education and training to staff as directed including CPI and CPR classes. Assist with ensuring that staff meet regulatory requirements. Develops training or coaching to address system-wide or individual gaps in meeting performance standards. Provides nursing support to maintain skills and to monitor changing needs.This position facilitates evidenced-based research within a specialized area of nursing and clinical areas. Collaborates with medical practitioners to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for a specialized group of patients.Serves as Infection Prevention Nurse - protects patients employees and guests from communicable diseases by directing and coordinates infection prevention and control program for the hospital.

ANurse Educator/Infection Preventionistwho excels in this role:

  • Understands patient treatment plans and coaches staff regarding patient response to treatment interventions.
  • Trains staff on specific policies forms and processes.
  • Provides staff with hands-on initial and ongoing clinical education
  • May serve as a preceptor for new nurse and PCA hires
  • Annually reviews and revises hospital infection control plan implementing any necessary protocol for the following year.
  • Maintains records of the hospitals infections investigating causes and reports hospital acquired infections per regulatory standard. Utilizes lab reports and pharmacy reports to identify infections.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current health concerns across the nation and the CDC recommendations for prevention.

What were looking for

Applicants should possess:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in nursing required. Minimum 5 years experience in nursing required. Combination experience and education may be considered.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility with direct experience working with chemical dependency dual diagnosis Adult Adolescent and geriatric patients preferred. Previous experience as a nurse educator preferred.

  • Additional Requirements: CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days. Completion of additional age specific training within 30 days. A strong knowledge of TJC Medicare OSHA patient rights and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities must be obtained within 30 days of employment. May be required to work flexible hours and overtime. Complete/Schedule CPR instructor and CPI instructor certification courses scheduled within 90 days of employment.
