Overview
Performs careful and accurate scientific work in a wide variety of laboratory procedures on specimens from patients of all ages using both manual and automated methods requiring independent judgment and reports the results in a timely manner. Performs venipuncture capillary and arterial punctures. Performs designated Quality assurance functions. Responsible for file building report generation interfaces and maintenance of the laboratory information system. Assists LIS Administrator in maintaining compliance with CAP regulatory functions of the LIS. Maintains documentation of validations performed with any upgrades to LIS or any downstream system where patient reports are viewed to meet regulatory requirements. Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety Courtesy Quality and Efficiency that support our mission vision and values.

Qualifications
Education:
College graduate Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Science or CLIA designated equivalent Preferred. Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Science or CLIA designated equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent) preferred or Registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or equivalent) required.
Experience:
Three to five years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician Preferred 1 year experience required.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Light to moderate physical effort.
Responsibilities
- Will conduct a full range of tests from the most routine to the most complex with little or no supervision.
- Responsible for the operation of computers precision instruments and other complex electronic equipment.
- Performs laboratory procedures in all clinical sections of the department
- Performs venipunctures capillary collections and arterial punctures.

- Work with Information Systems and outside IS groups for downstream systems regarding interface issues with the hospital information system or other clinic information systems.
- Assumes supervisory role when required.
- Performs other related work as required or requested.
