Job Summary

Your responsibilities

Join the technical team of the Amplifiers & Couplers (AC) Section within the Radio Frequency (RF) Group at CERN!

As a Mechanical Technician you will contribute to the mechanical development of projects using the CATIA CAD software (2D and 3D design). You will be involved in the entire lifecycle of components: design procurement project follow-up preparation and packaging.

You will also have the opportunity to receive training in various advanced techniques used in the field of superconducting cavities including cryogenic testing metal surface treatments cleanroom work ultra-high vacuum technology high-precision mechanical assembly and RF measurements. These technologies are implemented by the entire team and you will gain valuable hands-on experience in each area under the supervision of experienced technicians and engineers.

As a technician you will also contribute to quality documentation and be fully integrated into the R&D team which includes engineers and students. This work is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the performance of current accelerators and paving the way for future high-energy this context the Superconducting RF (SRF) section of the RF group defines the required cavity specifications and evaluates their performance (quality factor maximum electromagnetic fields) using dedicated cryogenic test stands. A wide range of advanced technologies is employed in the SRF facilities.

Your profile

Skills:

  • Proficient in CAD software (2D and 3D design);
  • Strong team-building skills and ability to collaborate effectively;
  • Highly motivated dynamic and solution-oriented;
  • Strong willingness to learn and continuously improve;
  • Spoken and written English or French with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanics (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants with a Bachelors Masters or PhD degree are not eligible.

Additional Information :

Job closing date: 12.09.2025 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Target start date: 01-October-2025

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
