The design of the hotel takes inspiration from the citys industrial heritage and brutalist architecture mixing concrete and moody elements with softer textures and confectionery touch points drawing on Yorks famous alumni including the Rowntree and the Terry families. As a city York has always had so much to offer; from its Roman and Viking roots to the cosmopolitan city it is today. Situated on the corner of Rougier Street the hotel is a stones throw away from some of the citys most famous attractions including York Minster York Castle and the historic city walls. The River Ouse are both a few minute walks away with the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens York Art Gallery and the world-famous university a short walk over the bridge.
About the Role
You will be 18 months (or less) from running your own hotel and keen to join a brand that will give you the opportunity to shine. Five of our current General Managers have been promoted from the Deputy General Manager position.
In this role youre a real organizer who loves leading and motivating your team. You will be driving the brand strategy in all elements of the business and helping set Malmaison apart from the competition as a preferred employer and destination to stay eat and drink.
As Deputy General Manager in York you will know the local market and understand how to maximise revenue within the business by looking at the bigger picture managing the detail through your department managers and team will be second nature and leading from the front to set the example is something you are no stranger to.You will need a good understanding of Health & Safety and be able to communicate effectively. They say the devil is in the detail and here at Malmaison it definitelyis.
Ideally you will have had previous experience in managing large teams and you will have a sound knowledge of food and drink in a similar sized property however this isnt a deal breaker.
