Brief Description:
The Counsellor/Duty Worker provides individual counselling including family violence counselling and social work service. This is a short-term two days a week position backfilling a staff on long service leave and is available now until February 2026. The position sits in the Generalist Counselling Team and is based at the VicPlace site in Coburg. It is particularly suitable for someone wishes to have additional work on top of their existing role as the days of work can be negotiated.
YOUR NEW ROLE:
The role of Counsellor/Duty Worker in the Generalist Counselling Team is to provide a range of services to individuals that includes counselling and casework; it may also include case management and group work.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Direct Service to Clients
Provide individual counselling group work and generalist social work services.
Provide casework including: intake assessment case plan development advocacy referral and report writing.
Participate effectively in team processes.
Act as a resource to other team members sharing expertise to facilitate best outcomes for clients.
Participate in the Duty Service.
Participate in the planning implementing and evaluation of group work programs for clients.
Ensure reporting requirements for the program are undertaken.
Ensure case notes and other client information is recorded according to service standards and practice.
Community and Development Training
Provide Community Education and Training activities as negotiated with Team Leader Generalist Counselling.
Participate in networks the steering committee and other relevant bodies as appropriate.
Ensure a flow of information between relevant external stakeholders and client/stakeholders.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Tertiary Qualification in Social Work or equivalent
Demonstrated experience in working with individuals with complex needs.
Demonstrated Counselling and Case work experience.
Knowledge of a broad range of therapeutic interventions and theoretical frameworks.
Demonstrated skills in working cross-culturally.
Effective interpersonal and communications skills (written and oral).
High level organisational skills.
