Job Description

We at Leggett & Platt Inc. are searching for an Operations Buyer within our Supply Chain Procurement team to help support our Work Furniture our Furniture Components business we design manufacture and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort motion and style in upholstered furniture including recliner mechanisms seating support systems and sofa sleeper units. With a global footprint that includes international manufacturing product development distribution and sales we are strategically positioned to support upholstered furniture manufacturers around the world.

Leggett & Platt is North Americas leading independent manufacturer of office furniture components and mechanisms. Our Work Furniture business produces task and finished components as well as select lines of private label finished seating. From surface-critical bent tube assemblies and molded plywood components to chair mechanisms bases arms seats and backs Work Furniture brings diverse world-class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high-quality contract furniture products.

As an Operations Buyer you will have the opportunity to drive purchasing decisions that directly impact production efficiency and cost savings. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by ensuring inventory accuracy optimizing supplier relationships and aligning procurement activities with operational goals. The team you will be working with is collaborative detail-oriented and committed to continuous improvement. We value analytical thinking cross-functional teamwork and a proactive mindset.

So what will you be doing as an Operations Buyer

  • Initiating purchases of materials and inventory to support production needs
  • Managing inventory levels to meet service targets and optimize turns
  • Building and maintaining supplier relationships; negotiating terms and resolving disputes
  • Analyzing vendor performance and recommending purchasing strategies
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and supporting continuous improvement
  • Monitoring raw material pricing trends to inform negotiations
  • Supporting new product development with supplier insights and cost analysis
  • Collaborating with Production Engineering Quality IT and Customer Service teams
  • Ensuring compliance with purchasing policies and trade regulations
  • Maintaining accurate SKU data in ERP systems (Syteline Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Using ERP/MRP data to forecast and plan future order quantities

To be successful in this role youll need:

  • 35 years of experience in procurement or operations buying
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Things we consider a plus:

  • Experience with Syteline ERP
  • Familiarity with supplier scoring and performance metrics
  • Exposure to cross-functional collaboration in a manufacturing environment
