Job Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Compliance Specialist for the Center for Law Brain & Behavior (CLBB) within the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) supports legal regulatory and ethical compliance across CLBBs operational research and diversion program activities. The Compliance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring adherence to institutional policies ethical standards data protection requirements and partner agreements particularly in the context of CLBBs criminal justice and neuroscience initiatives including the Young Adult Diversion Program (YADP). This role involves regulatory oversight contract and policy review stakeholder training and proactive risk identification.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regulatory and Legal Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable laws institutional policies and grant/contract obligations.
- Serve as point of contact for legal and regulatory matters related to CLBB programs and partnerships.
- Draft review and coordinate approval of MOUs data-sharing agreements and grant compliance documentation.
- Maintain compliance protocols related to the use of sensitive data in research and clinical programs.
- Support the integration of neuroscience-informed legal standards in diversion program implementation.
Programmatic and Partner Oversight:
- Collaborate with the Suffolk County District Attorneys Office and court personnel to uphold legal and ethical standards in diversion programming.
- Support compliance requirements for partner organizations providing behavioral health vocational and educational services.
- Facilitate regular auditing and quality assurance of program records documentation and data systems.
Education and Training:
- Assist in developing training materials and conducting workshops on legal compliance confidentiality ethics and neuroscience-informed justice for program staff attorneys and law enforcement partners.
- Support the dissemination of best practices through CLBBs NeuroLaw Library.
Monitoring Evaluation and Reporting:
- Track compliance metrics for grants institutional partnerships and diversion program operations.
- Conduct internal reviews and prepare compliance reports for CLBB leadership and funders.
- Identify risks and recommend improvements to policies and practices.
Policy Development and Advocacy Support:
- Assist in drafting legal briefs white papers and position statements related to criminal justice reform and neurodevelopmental science.
- Provide legal research and analysis to inform policy initiatives and legislative outreach.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of legal regulatory and ethical standards related to criminal justice healthcare or public policy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with legal research tools data privacy laws (e.g. HIPAA FERPA) and grant compliance frameworks.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of data management systems preferred.
Juris Doctor (JD) preferred or advanced degree in law public policy or compliance-related field.
Bachelors degree required.
JD or Masters degree in a related discipline highly desirable.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in compliance legal services public policy or related field.
Experience with criminal justice systems youth-focused diversion programs or community-based interventions is strongly preferred.
