4The Ballast Control Operator (BCO) (Marine Specialist) position is an experienced member of the marine operations team who is competent in the operation and maintenance of marine systems on board a Floating Offshore Installation (FOI).Chevron is accepting online applications for the position in the Gulf of Mexico through September 9th 2025 at 12:00am Central time zone.
The Marine Specialist Ballast Control Operator is a 14/14 rotational position in the Gulf of Mexico with crew changes taking place out of Galliano Louisiana.
HES Regulatory
The BCO ensures the facility is compliant and is well versed regarding USCG Regulations and ABS class maintenance. Works to satisfy ABS Annual Hull and Machinery Testing through collaboration with the operations and maintenance teams. Works to satisfy USCG Testing/Inspection to retain the facilities COI. Completes daily OIM Logs to keep the PIC informed on the facilities status. Performs and leads contract crews conducting confined space inspections for ISIP to ensure the integrity of the facilitys hull. Serves as confined space SME for the facility. Responsible for living conditions (quarter habitable) inside the living quarters. Takes lead and coordinates with maintenance team to ensure quarters habitable and satisfactory industrial hygiene for personnel. Performs monthly bunkhouse inspections with catering stewart addressing any gaps in catering crews performance. Ensures entire onboard crew is trained in the use of lifesaving equipment.
Lifesaving Appliance Maintenance
Performs Inspections and performs/coordinates repairs and maintenance on:
Lifeboat and fast rescue crafts (including 3rd party inspections/maintenance) fixed firefighting systems (including 3rd party inspections/maintenance) fire extinguishers and Hose Reels (including 3rd part inspections/maintenance) deluge Systems (assist automation techs with inspections and repairs) Jockey Water Pumps Diesel Firewater pumps Ring Buoys Life jackets Life rafts Safety Equipment Safety Shower Inspections Hurricane Tie Down Equipment Inventory Safety Checklist (Includes spill kits and chemical PPE Boxes) Portable Eye Wash Bottle Station Inspections etc.
Emergency Management
Responsible for initiating damage control response in the event of a stability incident. Develop track and coordinate emergency drills. Hold regular stability drills with leadership and all personnel to retain competency. Responsible for coordinating and presenting USCG required onboard training to the entire crew. Responsible for collision avoidance including radar operation and maintenance. Manage all marine vessels entering the 500-meter exclusion zone. Communicate and coordinate directly with vessels to ensure safe marine operations. Ensure facility is compliant with the facility security plan if operating under one. Ensure vessels entering the 500m exclusion zone have a valid Declaration of Security. Monitors helideck embarkation stations etc. to and from the facility to ensure facility security.
Marine Equipment Reliability / Asset Integrity
Performs Inspections and Performs/Coordinates repairs and maintenance on:
Mooring system including Annual 3rd party inspections / maintenance. Potable Water System including water makers. MSD - Book Cell Cleaning and maintenance (Ops rep during annual inspection/certification). Monitors quantity and quality of onboard consumables (diesel potable water etc.). Maintain critical marine spare parts inventory. Update Critical Equipment Operating Procedures as . Responsible for completion of Daily Marine ORDs. Leads BSEE level 1 Asset Integrity inspections by 3rd party personnel. Ops Rep for Exterior Hull and Underwater Inspections (Diving ROV Rope Access) on or around the facility.
Stability and Weight Management
Responsible for all ballasting operations ensuring the floating offshore installation stays within allowable limits as described in the MOM. Responsible for bunkering operations from vessels. Complete daily deck surveys to track weight and ensure the FOI stays within allowable limits utilizing the Load Management Program and/or long hand stability calculations. Ensure all permanent equipment/structures/packages that come out are accounted for in Lightship changes. Ensure all items that fall under the certified weight category have ABS certified weight documents.
Environmental Condition Monitoring and Maintenance
EFMS & ADCP operation and maintenance. Monitor weather forecast daily and communicate in SIMOPs meeting to keep the whole crew abreast of weather patterns that may affect upcoming scopes. Monitor potential tropical systems/ Loop Currents and keep leadership up to date on forecasts that may affect the facility.
Required Experience:
The candidate should have completed an Active or Passive Stability course.
The candidate should have 2 years experience with the operation of complex ballast systems and related marine systems i.e. mooring system Environmental Facility Monitoring System diesel storage bilge etc.
The candidate should have prior experience participating in USCG In-Service Inspections annual USCG Certificate of Inspections and annual class inspections.
Preferred Experience:
At least 4 years as BCO onboard FOI or equivalent facility or 2 years as BCO onboard Chevron FOI. Accepted Experience
Although no longer required by USCG possession of an active or continuity USCG Active Ballast OIM Barge Supervisor or Ballast Control Operator license for FOI is preferred.
