POSITION DUTIES

Are you a licensed psychologist seeking a meaningful role where your clinical expertise influences real-world outcomes Join our dedicated team at the Maryland Parole Commission within Marylands Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

The primary responsibility of the Psychologist II is to complete risk assessments for incarcerated individuals as assigned by the Maryland Parole Commission. The risk assessments are utilized in the decision making process related to an incarcerated individual being granted parole status. It is critical that the Maryland Parole Commission have risk related data available in making decisions associated with parole status. The primary focus will be the completion of risk assessment for incarcerated individuals with life sentences. However the Parole Commission may also refer other incarcerated individuals for risk assessment. The employee will need to be familiar with risk assessment instruments and maintain competency with other risk assessments that are developed within the professional community.

The primary duties of the role include:
  • Conducting in-depth clinical interviews of incarcerated individuals either in-person or virtual
  • Reviewing a wide array of documentation including base files Offender Case Management System (OCMS) records Electronic Patient History Records (EPHR) and Maryland Judiciary Case Search records
  • Administering and interpreting empirically-validated sexual and/or violence risk assessment instruments including but no limited to:
    • Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R)
    • Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) with use of Correctional Settings Report (PAI-CS)
    • Historical-Clinical-Risk-20-Third Edition (HCR-20-V3)
    • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) or Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence-Second Edition (WAIS-II)
    • Level of Community Supervision Framework-Revised (LCSF-R)
  • Formal Training in Forensic and Clinical Psychology Tests/Instruments
  • Attending relevant continuing education programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of thePsychologist license.

Note:Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for this classification must be licensed as a Psychologist by theMaryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointmentto a position. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may applybefore receipt of the required license but the application will be designated inpending status by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Testing the license has been obtained submit a copy of the license to MDH toremove the pending status from the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
