James Sheahan Catholic High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Year Coordinator to provide pastoral educational and organisational leadership for students in their year group. This key position plays an important role in fostering student wellbeing promoting academic engagement and strengthening partnerships between students families and the wider school community.

About the Role

The Year Coordinator is responsible for the holistic development of students ensuring that each individual is supported in their learning growth and faith journey. The role combines pastoral care with educational and organisational leadership requiring a strong commitment to student wellbeing effective communication with parents and collaborative work with staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster Gospel values as the foundation for relationships within the year group.
  • Provide pastoral care by encouraging motivating and affirming students.
  • Promote student engagement in academic and co-curricular programs.
  • Support student wellbeing discipline and positive behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Monitor attendance punctuality academic progress and uniform compliance.
  • Communicate regularly with parents with parents and guardians to build strong partnerships.
  • Organise and lead year-level assemblies meetings parent evenings and activities.
  • Oversee examinations study groups and reporting processes.
  • Encourage and develop student leadership opportunities.

About You

The successful applicant will be:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and accreditation to teach in NSW.
  • Ability to use student data effectively (e.g. attendance behaviour and academic patterns) to help monitor progress identify emerging concerns and support positive behaviour choices within the year group in a manner consistent with Gospel values.
  • Awareness of current student wellbeing issues such as attendance mental health and peer relationships and the ability to provide appropriate support or referral to specialist services while fostering a safe and caring environment grounded in Catholic faith and values.
  • Capacity to apply creative and engaging approaches to motivate students build a sense of belonging and promote a positive year group identity that reflects the schools Catholic ethos.
  • Commitment to providing a safe respectful and inclusive environment that promotes a culture of effort engagement and excellence encouraging each student to achieve their potential as learners and people of faith.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively in a dynamic school environment balancing the pastoral care needs of students with their own teaching responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the schools Wellbeing Team colleagues and parents/carers showing strong communication and partnership skills to ensure the best outcomes for students.
