Position Overview

City Year Detroit is seeking an AmeriCorps Member Experience & Recruitment Director who is responsible for ensuring 100 AmeriCorps Members have a positive service experience and develop into leaders for life. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff the AmeriCorps Experience Director (ACME Director) has broad responsibilities to ensure site-wide activities align to support the AmeriCorps Member experience and individual skill development. Additionally the ACME Director will be responsible for managing communication with the corps regarding site policies collecting feedback to assess the quality of the AmeriCorps Member experience developing a comprehensive Life After City Year (LACY) program and providing input into site planning activities. The AmeriCorps Experience Director supervises the Sr. Manager of Community Partnerships and AmeriCorps Member Experience and also cultivates and manages external partnerships that support these goals. The ACME Director will be expected to work closely with the Learning and Development Director Impact Directors and Managing Director of Impact to ensure comprehensive Impact Department wide support of AmeriCorps Members. As the voice for the corps the ACME & Recruitment Director also collaborates cross-departmentally with directors to identify solutions to site-wide challenges.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

AmeriCorps Member Recruitment

  • Identify and assess youth facing organizations and educational institutions (high schools community colleges local organizations) within Detroit and Michigan to supplement national recruitment partners
  • Build a strategic partnership plan inclusive of goals strategies and tactics to facilitate recruiting leads for City Year Detroit.
  • Implement cultivation strategies to increase City Year brand awareness among champions within each partner institution and opportunities for them to promote City Year to prospects
  • Identify opportunities to promote City Year service directly to prospects through events community presentations champion introductions facilitating professional development workshop etc.
  • Deepen opportunities to source candidates from local school districts by partnering with site staff on a holistic district partnership approach
  • Partner closely with members of the national Recruitment & Admissions team to support a successful hand-off from local sourcing to the nationally led application and admissions process
  • Partner with the national recruitment and marketing teams to help tell the City Year Detroit story its impact and AmeriCorps member experience
  • Support the recruitment of Returning AmeriCorps Members who wish to serve a second year with City Year Detroit.

AmeriCorps Member Leadership Appreciation & Career Development

  • Own the planning and execution of AmeriCorps Member recognition and appreciation activities support with planning of other site wide initiatives and activities focused on corps members including event logistics for Opening Day AmeriCorps Member Appreciation Month 18-Minute Networking and Graduation
  • Support site wide corps member leadership development opportunities including Corps & Deans Council
  • Collaborate with Learning & Development Director to schedule LACY opportunities to meet corps members needs and build relationships with career partners based on corps members career interests
  • Identifies industry professionals to serve as mentors for corps members and builds programming that facilitates the mentor/mentee relationship

AmeriCorps Member Feedback & Support

  • Serve as the primary point person for corps member survey completion review feedback loop and action steps at a site level as well as supporting alumni data collection and experience data
  • Work with Directors and Executive Director to conduct feedback sessions with AmeriCorps Members to gauge their service experience
  • Review corps member feedback on site wide activities and events make recommendations for improvements based on trends

AmeriCorps Member Compliance & Benefits Support

  • Collaborate with the Corps Talent Acquistion Department Government Relations (HQ) to streamline communication to confirmed incoming AmeriCorps Members and pilot new initiatives based on site data and needs
  • Serve as Corps Site Analyst and receive training from HQ and AmeriCorps around onboarding background check and exiting protocol
  • Supports the Sr. Manager of ACME/CPM to create a cohesive experience for AmeriCorps Members from confirmation through graduation including the onboarding process registration and benefits process
  • Monitors site wide retention and partner with Impact Directors and HQ partners around ongoing escalated corps member issues including corps members who need be put on leave through the Compelling Personal Circumstance process or corps members with performance challenges (Performance & Accountability System)
  • Manage all corps member benefits for current corps members including WMATA benefits & customer service corps member pay issues and support alumni employment verifications requests and post service benefits support
  • Implement a site wide process for uniform distribution serve as site uniform point person with HQ leading on all returns exchanges and corps member issues

AmeriCorps Member Resources

  • Develop new partnerships to support ongoing corps member needs such as housing financial concerns mental health concerns trauma supports
  • Research coordinate and collaborate with partners on educational and learning opportunities for the corps related to existing challenges (example: budgeting filing taxes financial literacy etc.)
  • Collaborate with the City Year Headquarters to support AmeriCorps Members in understanding and accessing their existing benefits (example: health benefits Employee Assistance Program counseling support services etc.)
  • Liaison with City Year Headquarters AmeriCorps Member Experience Team on behalf of City Year Detroit

Returning AmeriCorps Member Recruitment and Team Leadership

  • Collaborate with Recruitment and Admissions point and align on strategy for recruiting interested AmeriCorps Members including coordinating recruitment events for interested members
  • Develop trainings that emphasize Impact Managers role in cultivating AmeriCorps Member talent with a focus on Team Leader professional development opportunities
  • In partnership with Impact Directors and the Learning and Development Director plan and coordinate monthly trainings and two retreats per year for Senior AmeriCorps Members.

  • Commitment to and experience with community service national service and/or the development of young people as leaders.
