The salary for this position is: $4033.00 - $5364.00 monthly.
The Thurston County Auditors Licensing & Recording Division is seeking a professional highly motivated and dependable candidate for the position of Recording Specialist to join our hard-working team. This is an exciting opportunity for those with outstanding customer service skills effective at communicating and possess acute attention to detail seeking to begin their career in document recording work in a great environment and receive excellent this role you will serve as the customer service representative for the County Auditors recording functions and be responsible for document recording indexing records research and retrieval archiving and preservation and related recording functions for residents of Thurston County. This position issues and maintains marriage applications and certificates for Thurston County receives enters and balances daily deposits engages in significant public contact requiring effective communication and service to the customers and provides passport services.
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide responsive and accurate customer service while maintaining professionalism under pressure and handling stressful situations with discretion and sensitivity. Communicate clearly and consistently with customers whether in-person on the phone or via email. Initiate and respond to correspondence as necessary.
- Review documents and maps to determine if the documentation submitted meets all statutory requirements to complete the transaction.
- Record documents in the Countys computer-based recording system. Enter data from recorded documents into Countys recording database and verify information for accuracy. Ensure clarity and legibility of image when scanned into recording system. Assist title companies attorneys government offices and public with records research and retrieval from computer-based recording system microfiche and archives.
- Receive verify process and/or issue a variety of documents including: document recordings maps copy requests marriage licenses domestic partnership registrations process server registrations animal licenses passport applications and collect appropriate fees.
- Perform and certify UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) searches as required by statute.
- Sort and examine incoming mail for compliance with statutes and required fees and process accordingly.
- Balance cash drawer daily prepare daily deposits for the County Treasurer and request and compile routine reports from the Countys computer-based recording system.
- Accept lawsuits on behalf of Thurston County.
- Work independently and as part of a team. May provide training to employees as necessary.
- Maintain regular predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite.
- Review and accept Passport applications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Environment Professional fast paced team-oriented office setting in Olympia Washington primarily sitting at a customer service workstation
- Schedule Monday thru Friday 7:50 a.m. 4:50 p.m.
- Travel Requirements - Occasional travel may be required to meetings trainings or conferences.
- Customer Interactions - Daily frequent interactions in-person via phone and e-mail with the public title companies real estate agents and attorneys surveyors eRecording vendors and Thurston County staff.

Upon successful completion of the program the employee shall be reclassified into the higher-level job classification and retain the increase in pay. The career ladder opportunity for the Licensing and Recording Specialist II will only be available to employees in the Licensing Specialist or Recording Specialist job classifications. Only employees in the Licensing and Recording Specialist II job classification are eligible to apply for the Licensing and Recording Specialist III. QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED plus business coursework.
- One (1) year of general office experience with significant public contact and financial accountability.
- Ability to use a personal computer software packages and mainframe database systems to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Must be able and willing to work a varying work schedule when required.
- Must pass background check.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- One (1) year of office experience in a title company real estate company or banking industry.
- Ability to type 50 wpm and operate a 10-key adding machine.
- Knowledge of State and County statutes/ordinances regarding document recording surveys plats and marriage licenses.
- Knowledge of documents regarding the transfer and registry of real property.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate clerical and financial records.
- Basic knowledge of computers programs and applications and ability to operate office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to create and maintain good public relations.
- Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks concurrently.
- Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions regarding work methods.
- Ability to process and account for money.
- Understanding of inventory control techniques and cash management process.
