The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Finance Administration and IT the Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of accounts receivable and payable maintaining accurate financial records and supporting financial reporting. This role also contributes to the preparation of draft financial statements particularly not-for-profit reporting.

What youll do

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting Budgeting and Year-End

  • Assist with year-end preparation and audit.
  • Prepare or assist with draft financial statements for not-for-profit reporting.
  • Prepare monthly HST remittance and backup documentation for review.
  • Reconcile GL accounts. Identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Reconcile bank statements.
  • Support the ongoing development and efficiencies of systems and processes.

Accounts Receivable

  • Peer-review bank deposits.
  • Ensure collections of billings are kept up to date. Assist when required.
  • AR backup.

Accounts Payable

  • AP backup when needed.
  • Manage Petty Cash.

Other

  • Perform other related duties and complete special projects as assigned.

What youll need

Qualifications

Education

  • Diploma in accounting from a recognized institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in a related accounting role.
  • Intermediate proficiency in accounting software.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and databases.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

A Physical Environment

Typically located in a comfortable office environment.

70 hours bi-weekly Monday to Friday.

B Physical Effort

  • Physical demands are those associated with being in a normal office environment and using typical office equipment and may include sitting standing walking stooping bending climbing.
  • Ability to carry 10 kg over short distances unaided.

C Sensory Attention

  • Reviewing online and hard copy reports with close attention to details.

D Mental Pressures

  • There is a need to meet competing month-end deadlines.
