Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The position of Senior Communications Specialist is assigned to the Knowledge Support Division (DCKD) within the Department of Communications and Knowledge Management (DOCK).

The position will be based at our Headquarters in Manila Philippines. The incumbent will report to the Director DCKD and will oversee junior team members.

Your Role

As a Senior Communications Specialist you will provide leadership and editorial oversight for the production of ADB publications. You will work closely with internal clients to guide manuscripts through the publication process and oversee service providers to ensure timely delivery and excellence in design editing and production. You will also provide senior-level oversight of the Asian Development Banks intellectual property rights for its publications ensuring that all content is protected and aligned with ADBs broader institutional and policy objectives.

You will:

  • Lead production of ADB publications ensuring quality timeliness and adherence to institutional standards.
  • Manage institutional and commercial co-publishing partnerships for ADB publications.
  • Oversee co-publishing and licensing agreements.
  • Safeguard ADBs intellectual property rights for its publications.
  • Stay apprised of changes in technology and publishing best practices to enhance ADBs publishing program.
  • Advise internal clients on publishing best practices and related organizational standards.
  • Ensure ADBs roster of publication production service providers is well managed high-performing and aligned with publishing needs.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to teams and individuals and ensure their ongoing learning and development.
  • Perform other related tasks that may be assigned by the Director DCKD.

You will need:

  • Masters degree in Publishing Communications Journalism Marketing or relevant development fields or University degree in one of these areas and at least 5 years specialized experience relevant to the position can be considered
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience including international work experience.
  • Experience in writing and editing in a senior editorial role producing corporate or academic reports; management of editorial and design teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of academic book publishing as well as the currently emerging trends in marketing and dissemination.
  • Understanding of graphic design typography and desktop publishing principles techniques and software for digital and print projects;
  • Experience producing print web and mobile content using XML workflows;
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team of professionals and to establish and maintain productive working relationships with other ADB departments authors colleagues and vendors.
  • Strong commitment to working in a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial fixed period of 3 years. At the end of the initial period this appointment may at the option of ADB be extended once for up to 2 years converted to a regular appointment or ended on its expiration date. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB that: (a) it will require Staffs particular blend of skills and experience in the foreseeable future; and (b) Staffs performance is satisfactory and they are suitable for further employment.
