Job Description
Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time exempt position of System Administrator. This position reports directly to the Director of IT User Services and is located in River Forest IL.
The System Administrator is responsible for configuration and maintenance of CUCs server and storage resources. This position is responsible for the installation routine maintenance patching and upgrading of server resources including both Windows and Linux operating systems in a highly virtualized VMWare environment. The System Administrator will install configure and respond to alerts generated by the end-point detection and response (EDR) software to ensure a secure environment. This individual will also perform the administration of backup software ensuring continual data protection.
Working on-site at the main CUC campus is required for this position. Remote work is not an option.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Installs monitors and maintains the physical servers and storage arrays within the VMware environment.
- Integrates server resources into the campus network configuring AD/LDAP DNS SSH RDP SNMP services and updating server inventories.
- Administer firewalls switches load balancers wireless APs and other network devices
- Manages incidents and service requests by communicating through the CUC Helpdesk ticketing system.
- Routinely reviews logs for errors and troubleshoots incidents using a repeatable methodology to restore services.
- Ensures the safety of all user and system files using robust backup and data recovery services.
- Ensures the security of all systems by managing the network security in the CUC environment.
- Serves as a member of the IT information security emergency response team.
- Assists in managing the university data center to provide highly available server resources and to aid in recovery efforts caused by power outages and hardware failures.
- Works closely with the other IT teams including the Technical Services and Applications teams in the development and deployment of University IT services and technologies.
- Serves as a member of the Network Operations Team (NOC) to respond to off-hour incidents on a rotational basis.
- Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).
Skill Sets:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the following:
- Windows Server Administration including Active Directory
- Linux Server Administration
- Hyper-V Administration
- Experience with automation and management software such as Ansible PowerShell and WSUS
- Excellent communication skills and collaborative team mindset
- Effective multi-tasking abilities
- Effective project planning development and implementation
- Ability to take initiative and work independently as required
- Ability to interact well with fellow staff and clients
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of Universitys mission goals and purpose and the positions role in achieving them
Minimum Experience Required:
- 3 years experience in managing and deploying Windows and Linux servers
- Experience managing and interacting with cloud and SaaS providers specifically Microsoft Azure
Education Requirements:
Bachelors Degree - Computer Science or Computer Information Systems required.
