Description
Position Purpose:
The Cafe Shift Lead is responsible for leading day-to-day cafe operations ensuring high-quality food and beverage service standards for students staff faculty and guests including special events and conferences. It oversees Baristas Caf Cashiers volunteers and interns for a given shift within the Caf team. This role aligns Campus Dining personnel with the vision and mission of Charis Bible College emphasizing cleanliness hospitality and world-class service and food production.
Essential Duties:
- Train and supervise baristas to expertly prepare and serve a variety of coffee and tea beverages following established recipes and maintaining high-quality standards.
- Communicate and train staff to be knowledgeable about the menu including seasonal and specialty items and be able to make recommendations to customers.
- Train and supervise staff on how to accurately take and process customer orders ensuring all orders are correct and meet customer expectations.
- Instruct staff on how to handle cash credit and other forms of payment accurately and responsibly following all cash-handling procedures.
- Complete clerical assignments as directed by the Campus Dining Manager.
- Assure staff are trained to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment including cleaning equipment counters and seating areas adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Monitor and delegate restocking of inventory as needed including coffee beans syrups milk and other supplies ensuring everything is available for smooth operation.
- Assist and lead caf staff in all aspects of catering and beverage services for events held at the college providing high-quality service to event attendees.
- Manage and train staff to work collaboratively with other staff members including kitchen and event staff to ensure seamless service and operations.
- Participate and ensure staff members are participating in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current with industry trends and college policies.
- Lead by example and ensure all staff interns and volunteers act with integrity honesty and knowledge that promotes the culture values and mission of Charis Bible College.
- Maintain and set the pace for caf staff members to maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the Kiosk running to standard and to set a positive example for the team.
- Oversee the preparation of food for purchase such as cutting and packing food for sale through the Caf as directed.
- Come alongside and assist Charis Kitchen during a high volume of meal plan activities as required.
- Follows health safety and sanitation guidelines for all products and instructs staff members onthe same.

Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Windows-based computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint).
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service aptitude.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Effective problem-solving skills with conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Excellent multitasking abilities.
- Competence in operating a cash register and utilizing the Square POS system if needed.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills displaying professionalism with guests staff and students.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Exceptional time management capabilities.
- Availability for extended hours and weekend shifts during conferences and events.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
- Knowledge of food and beverage industry standards food safety and hygiene.
Requirements:
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Must sign the Statement of Faith.
- A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
- An associate degree is preferred.
- Charis Bible College student or graduate is preferred.
- Must pass all requiredchecks.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of managerial/supervisory experience in the Caf or food service industry is preferred.
- Prior experience in a Coffee Shop or Caf environment is preferred.
- A minimum of 1 year in a management or supervisory role is preferred.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience.
