Title -Student Worker - Dropout Prevention Specialist (COA) (Part-Time) (SY25-26)

- Dropout Prevention Specialists are responsible for students who are coming to school to do their school work in the Centers for Online Academy. They are also responsible for assistance with attendance outreach for COA students. Schedules for each will be dictated by the principal or principals designee.
- The Specialist oversees students to ensure that they use the remote school work time effectively on assignments left by the teacher and that students follow school rules.
- The Specialist will oversee remote learning troubleshooting with zoom classes and supporting with assignments students are responsible for completing during the school day.
- The Specialist will be responsible for making calls and doing outdoor home visits to students on their designated caseload.
- The Specialist will work with administration and the attendance outreach lead to determine which students are in need of this type of intervention.
- The Specialist will prepare a weekly report of outreach attempts (home visits and phone calls) to share with COA staff.
REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES:
The class Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
- Ability to be present daily in person.
- Assisting students in individual classes or large group sessions
- Reporting to teachers the work completed by students and any academic issues
- Managing behavior and enforcing school rules during time with students
- Keeps the principal informed about concerns about students academic progress or emotional well-being
- Taking attendance
- Aiding students with the use of technology to finish assignments
- Help students to engage and re engage with work using school based SEL practices
- Upholds school policies and follows administrative procedures
- Attending a weekly attendance meeting with all COA staff
- Writing an outreach report for students on their caseload
- Performing at least one outdoor home visit per week and multiple calls per week for students on their caseload.
- Additional duties as assigned by the principal or designee
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum High School Diploma;
- ability to maintain order in classrooms and enforce school policies with students;
- ability to implement lesson plans;
- ability to perform reporting/recording requirements;
- ability to communicate effectively with the entire school community;
- experience working with youth.
- Ability to work with diverse population;
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and response to intervention helpful
- Citizenship residency or work visa required
- Must be a Chelsea Opportunity Academy alumni
- Spanish proficiency preferred
Terms:
This is a non-bargaining unit position. The hours are on a part-time basis up to 19 hours per week with no benefits eligibility. The hourly rate will be determined by the candidates qualifications which include but are not limited to education and experience. The hours will be determined by the Supervisor.
