JOB SUMMARY:
Oversees early childhood education service area and program operations in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards. Assists with overseeing program options mentoring teachers conducting observations providing coaching and feedback and handling compliance requirements. Carries out all duties within Head Start Performance Standards NYS Education Standards Agency policies and procedures and Office of Children and Family Services requirements.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts in a leadership role and provides guidance and consultation to program staff.
- Conducts home visits and classroom observations to ensure compliance with regulations performance standards quality assurance and effective Early Childhood Education; coaches staff and makes recommendations.
- Reviews staff reports and lesson plans and makes recommendations.
- Monitors data and completes monthly reports MBO assists with Child Outcome reports school readiness reports and other required documentation.
- Oversight of Learning Genie (set up training staff updating approval of inkind).
- Assists with monthly education staff meetings.
- Purchases and distributes equipment and supplies for centers; assists in setting up new classrooms.
- Assists with interviewing and hiring education services staff.
- Provides pertinent training for staff; conducts personal safety and volunteer workshops for parents.
- Assists in facilitating/executing the self-assessment and community assessment process.
- Assists in updating the Education & Early Childhood Development plan annually; prepares year-end reports and sends them to receiving schools.
- Assists center managers in maintaining substitutes and securing substitute coverage; substitutes in classrooms as needed.
- Assists center managers with OCFS renewals and mid year.
- In the absence of a center manager oversees education related operations and classroom staff.
- Maintains contact with school district personnel Child Care Council and other community educational agencies.
- Co facilitates the Kindergarten Transition Collaboration Meeting with district personnel Head Start Staff and other early childhood educators in the county. Ensures transition activities are taking place in the classroom.
- Provides support on collaborative or special projects.
- Attends professional meetings conferences and training sessions for skill maintenance and enhancement in the field.
- Participates in Agency work groups and committees.
- Shares information and participates in shared decision making with Early Childhood Coordinator Managers and other specialists.
- Manages the Work Sampling System for the classrooms and program.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be familiar with the performance standards of Head Start and Child Outcomes Framework.
- Must have a desire to work with low-income children and families and have a through understanding of Early Childhood philosophy and the principles of main streaming children with handicap conditions.
- Must exhibit professionalism good judgment and flexibility.
- Must have the ability to work with others in a warm professional manner be a positive role model to staff children and parents.
- Must be able to plan and direct the work of others and be creative in program planning for children and families.
- Must have knowledge of public services and resources.
- Must perform duties in accordance with NYS DSS regulations.
- Must have good communication skills and be able to follow complex oral and written directions.
- Must possess valid NYS Drivers License with driving record within Agency policy and have access to a reliable vehicle for travel and transporting. Must obtain and maintain Personal and Agency Vehicle Certification.
- Must have acceptable physical and mental health to carry out the responsibilities of the position including lifting and participating in activities with children at their level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in early childhood education; with 2 years related experience teaching children 3-5 years of age or
- Certified teacher N-6 with 12 hours of course work in Early Childhood with 3 years experience teaching children 3-5 years of age or
- Associates degree in early childhood education; and 5 years experience in teaching children 3-5 years of age
- Any equivalent combination of education experience and training.
