Job Description
TITLE OF POSITION:
Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher
LOCATION:
Orleans Elementary School
DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT
OF POSITION:
The successful candidate will:
- Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students with moderate special needs including but not limited to academic behavioral and developmental delays.
- Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics multi-sensory learning and repetition to reinforce learning.
- Teach socially acceptable behavior as determined by the students IEP by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
- Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
- Meet with parents to discuss their childs progress and determine priorities for their child.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts Certification required for Special Education.
- Masters Degree preferred.
- Experience working with students with moderate special needs and behavioral needs.
- Ability to provide evidence of impact on student improvement.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with administrators colleagues school based staff students parents and community members.
- Ability to manage challenging behavior and possess the skills knowledge and expertise to teach and promote positive behavior.
- Demonstrates patience understanding and empathy with pupils and parents.
