Job Overview:
This is a full-time contract assignment in a correctional healthcare environment. The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers comprehensive patient care to incarcerated individuals following provider orders administering medications assisting in examinations and ensuring appropriate treatment and documentation. The role requires strong clinical judgment adaptability and a commitment to maintaining patient care standards in a secure facility.
Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care consistent with licensure scope and correctional healthcare standards.
- Assist providers with sick call exams and treatments.
- Administer medications and operate pill call in compliance with policies.
- Perform assessments triage and refer patients to higher-level care when required.
- Respond to medical emergencies and perform life-saving interventions.
- Supervise and monitor LVN/LPN staff and non-licensed personnel.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
- Conduct safety checks and secure all medical supplies and equipment.
- Provide individual and group health education as directed.
- Collaborate with correctional staff and outside providers to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements:
- Must reside more than 70 miles from the facility (no local applicants).
- Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience.
- Active unrestricted New Mexico RN license.
- Active BLS certification (AHA preferred).
- Must be able to start within 2 weeks of offer.
- Open availability; no RTO or scheduling restrictions allowed.
- Must not have worked at the same facility in the past 6 months.
- Must not be on any industry DNU list.
- U.S. Citizenship and Social Security card required for facility clearance.
Preferred:
- Previous correctional or behavioral health nursing experience.
- Strong critical thinking and triage skills.
- Ability to work effectively in high-stress secure environments.
