The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation which provides age related residential educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area.

Social Care Manager 1 / Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1) GRADE

Permanent Full-Time (39 /37.5 hours per week)

Location: Adults Residential Services

Cork City/suburbs

The Purpose

The Social care leader (SCL)/ Person in Charge (PIC) has overall responsibility for the effective governance operational management and regulatory compliance of a designated centre for people with intellectual disabilities. The PIC ensures the residents receive high quality person centred care and support that promotes dignity rights independence and quality of life in accordance with the Organisations policies and procedures the health act 2007 (as amended) and relevant national standards. The SCL/PIC will partake in and manage the roster effectively to ensure adequate staffing in line with the Statement of Purpose.

Reporting to Area Manager or other authorised person as the Employing Authority may designate

1. Professional Qualifications and Experience etc.
1. Candidates must
1. Possess a level 7 or higher in Social care PLUS a level 8 in a health/management related 3rd level qualification on the Quality & Qualifications (QQI) framework OR
2. Possess a nursing qualification PLUS a level 8 in a health/management related 3rdlevel qualification on the Quality & Qualifications (QQI) framework
3. Possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Social Care Worker Registration Board CORU And
4. Must be eligible for registration on the Social Care Workers registration board with CORU from November 2023 must obtain such registration by November 2025 and must maintain such registration for the duration of employment in this role.
5. If a qualified nurse maintain live annual registration in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) - An Brd Altranais
6. Have a minimum 5 years experience of working in residential services supporting adults with intellectual disability autism and challenging behaviour is essential.
7. Minimum 2 years management or supervisory experience.
8. Possess or working towards a relevant management qualification.
9. Post graduate training in Positive Behaviour Support is desirable
10. Be flexible to meet the requirements of the service
11. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a high level of flexibility is essential
12. Have experience of using alternative communication methods is essential
13. Previous experience and understanding of how to support individuals with very specific and clinical support requirements and a clear understanding of the importance of working in line with written protocols and guidelines is desirable
14. Have experience of using a person centered planning system is essential.
15. Be computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge and proficiency of using information systems
2. Driving Licence

Candidates must possess a full driving licence which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads as it is essential for the roles.

3. Age

The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.

* Public Servants not affected by this legislation:

Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age.

Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70.

4. Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

5. Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

6. Hours of Work

The normal working hours will be 37.5/39 hours per week (depending on qualification) however flexible hours including weekends evenings and sleepovers are involved. Starting and finishing times will be as notified to the appointee from time to time by the line manager. It is essential that the PIC ensures that there is constant and appropriate cover available within the residential service at all times. The appointee may be required to work additional hours arising from the duties of the appointment and compensation for these hours by way of time off in lieu to be taken in line with the policy. The appointee may be required to provide out of hours on call cover and act as a person on responsibility within the service.

Salary Scale: Social Care Manager 1: 56351 - 65827 (1/8/25 Consolidated Scales)

Clinical Nurse Manager 1: 56642 - 66705 (1/8/25 Consolidated Scales)

* Successful candidates are required to submit all documentary evidence outlining any relevant experience within 3 months of starting date. Failure to do so will mean that any incremental credit due now will only be paid from date of submission of documents.
