Full Job Description:

General Definition of Work:

Responsible for providing psychological services needed for students of the school division and provide crisis intervention services perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Functions:
  • Conducts comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to assess a students level of cognitive academic social/emotional and behavioral functioning in order to assist in the identification of an educational disability;
  • Prepares clearly written comprehensive psychological reports that address the referral issues and provide practical recommendations that can be realistically implemented by school personnel and used to assist in the development of the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) or intervention plans;
  • Provides psychoeducational consultation to teachers counselors administrators other school personnel and parents to assist with the amelioration of school-related problems;
  • Provides counseling as a related service for students with an IEP and/or brief individual and/or group counseling to students needed to assist with the amelioration of school-related problems;
  • Serves as a member of pre-referral intervention teams (SBIT/MTSS) as requested and the Special Education Eligibility Committee. Serves as chairperson of certain eligibility committees as assigned;
  • Participates in other data-based decision-making school teams (IEP Section 504 MDR Threat Assessment etc.) as requested;
  • Maintains accurate and careful records of all psychological services provided;
  • Follows federal state and local laws regulations and policies regarding childrens educational welfare; and serves as an advocate for students and parents;
  • Maintains high professional and ethical standards as delineated in Principals for Professional Ethics (National Association of School Psychologists) and Ethical Principals of Psychologists (American Psychological Association);
  • Assists as needed with the development and provision of in-service programs related to child behavior child development special programs and preventative mental health in the school setting;
  • Supervises the work of the school divisions psychology interns and practicum students as assigned;
  • Serves as liaison between the schools and consulting clinical psychologists psychiatrists and mental health agencies;
  • Acts as a consultant concerning assessment approaches and instruments to be utilized in the evaluation of students by school personnel; recommends appropriate reference material;
  • Serves as a member of appropriate community groups or committees as requested;
  • Interprets to school division patrons the psychological services of the school system; maintains liaison with community and state organizations related to psychological services;
  • Cooperates in school division follow-up and research projects to enhance the effectiveness of instructional programs for students;
  • Supervises and implements procedures for School Crisis Team if assigned;
  • Attends professional workshops and conferences to refine skills and gain new competencies;
  • Keeps abreast of the professional literature in order to remain alert for ways in which psychological services to students can be improved and makes such suggestions and recommendations;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Ability to assess screen and evaluate students; ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with administrative and school staff; knowledge of child growth and development; Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Education and Experience:

Holds or is eligible for the Virginia Pupil Personnel Services License with an endorsement in school psychology. Must be eligible to participate in school-based Medicaid claiming by having a valid NPI number or willing to secure a NPI number upon employment.


Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:

Conducts work typically in an office or classroom setting with occasional walking light lifting or other limited physical activities. Frequent operation of a vehicle and office equipment is required. Regular and frequent contacts made at all organization levels for the purpose of developing and achieving organization goals and mission. Regular travel to school sites is required.


Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibility.
