Job Summary

  • Provide clinical leadership and deep subject matter expertise related to the design and delivery of our services and programmes particularly the Adult Population Genome Programme (APGP)
  • Support the Chief Medical Officer Chief Scientific Officer Director of External Affairs and Director of Ethics in their engagements with the Science Advisory Committee Ethics Advisory Committee Access Review Committee and the Participants Panel
  • Together with other members of the clinical team provide clinical support to the service management team including supporting complex conversations with research participants and handling of routine enquiries complaints and clinical incidents
  • Provide clinical input to support delivery of the clinical safety and risk management systems
  • Represent GEL at national and international conferences meetings and working groups
  • Be the clinical liaison with external bodies in the wider ecosystem e.g. RCGP devolved nations DHSC GLH and GMSA network
  • Support the Chief Medical Officer and GMS Service Owner at the interface between GEL and NHS England / NHS colleagues in Primary and community care GLHs and GMSAs
  • Define priorities relevant to patients and clinicians and advocate with ELT and colleagues across GEL to ensure understanding of the impact of these priorities
  • Hold external roles and / or develop strong relationships with senior stakeholders nationally and internationally to explain drive and advocate for GEL initiatives and priorities
  • Provide clinical leadership in evolving research strategy and coordination and developing processes to support research stakeholders
  • Know and understand the meaning behind our virtues and leadership behaviours and embody them in all aspects of your role.

Qualifications :

We are seeking a proactive and experienced clinician with experience of working within primary care setting in the NHS.

It is essential to hold a Medical degree; Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP); and have at least beginner-level knowledge of genomics.

Knowledge of pharmacogenomics and cardiovascular/cancer risk prediction and experience of healthcare informatics is desirable.

Due to the nature of the role and the skillset required we would consider this role on a secondee basis and are happy to be flexible in the way this is undertaken.

Blended working model

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility that hybrid working can bring. We expect most people to come into the office a minimum of 2 times each month. However this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that people will return to the office full time unless they want to however some of our roles require full time on site attendance e.g. lab teams reception team. 

Our teams and squads have and will continue to reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit beyond the minimum. Our office locations are: Canary Wharf Cambridge and Leeds.
