Position summary
The Inuit Youth Futures project is participatory action-research aimed at co-creating and formatively evaluating an art-based suicide intervention program for Inuit youth. The program is inspired by the Arts in Recovery for Youth (AIRY) model which integrates dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) principles with art expression. By connecting DBT to an art practice AIRY teaches participants emotional regulation distress tolerance safety planning and interpersonal effectiveness among others.
We are searching for a junior research assistant that can assist in co-creating a version of the AIRY model for Inuit youth.
General Duties
The Junior Research Assistant will report to the PI and be responsible for:
Conduct literature review and consultation with community to inform cultural adaptation of AIRY intervention and training
Co-develop overall research protocol and methodology
Prepare presentations and workshops for the Inukjuak community about the intervention
Participate in committee and staff meetings to discuss development of the intervention
Deliver the intervention (if desired)
Participate in AIRY OCAP and DBT training as well as additional training that may be necessary for program development
Take field notes including observations and participant reflections
Develop and administer pre- and post-AIRY workshop intervention surveys
Design and perform studies within the project analyze data
Analyze the data and consult on analysis results guides community worker consultations on what doesnt work what needs to be adjusted in the program
Assist with preparation of reports manuscripts and grant applications
Assist in preparing ethics applications updates and renewal
Adapt consent process and confidentiality agreement for research confidentiality.
Excellent French and English spoken and written
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision
Attention to detail and accuracy
Good analytical and logic skills
Problem assessment and problem-solving abilities
Demonstrate diplomacy discretion and good judgement
Experience with grant writing
Experience with qualitative and quantitative data management and analysis.
