The Logic is hiring a business reporter.

About the role:
The business reporter will break news and deliver The Logics readers sharp agenda-setting coverage of the companies markets and trends shaping the Canadian economy. They will pitch report and write stories on tight deadlines and chase breaking news as assigned by The Logics editors. They will pitch longer-term assignments and partner with colleagues on team projects.
This is a full-time staff job with a salary range of $69073.20 to $107760. It is based in Toronto where The Logic offers a hybrid work arrangement.
What youll do:
- Play a key role on The Logics finance desk with a focus on covering public companies financial markets and dealmaking
- Generate unique story ideas and break exclusive business and technology news
- Write in-depth analysis and longform features on key companies issues and business players in Canada and contribute to other editorial products including The Logic Briefing newsletter
- Participate in The Logics virtual and in-person live journalism events
Who you are:
The successful candidate will ideally have some business journalism experience but we welcome applications from journalists who have done first-rate work covering other subjects. Were looking for:
- A journalist with experience or a keen interest in reporting on business and technology someone whos interested in both high-stakes boardroom decision-making and the impact those decisions have outside the boardroom
- An enterprising self-starter someone adept at developing sources to help them break news but also comfortable finding stories in public filings data sets and access-to-information returns
- A good writer who puts in the work to transform complex financial topics into clear engaging and accurate stories that help readers understand how money moves and why those moves matter
- Someone who takes as much pride in contributing to our daily newsletter as they do in writing news stories and features and who is comfortable reporting and writing in a range of styles while promoting diversity of thought and representation in storytelling
- A team player with an adaptive and entrepreneurial mindset who wants to grow with the organization and who will enjoy working at a startup
- Someone whos committed to building a collegial collaborative newsroom that treats all its members with respect

Work arrangements at The Logic:
The Logic is pleased to provide work arrangements through which employees can produce their best work. We are a distributed team and work remotely across Canada. For team members in Toronto and Ottawa The Logic offers office space for in-person work meetings etc.
