Job Description

District Industry Training Construction and Electrician Program Byrne Creek Secondary School

The Burnaby School District respectfully acknowledges that our schools reside on the Coast Salish territory in the traditional and ancestral lands of the hnqminm and skwxw7 mesh speaking people.

As one of the largest most progressive and diverse urban districts in the province Burnaby provides comprehensive educational programs and services to a diverse population of 24000 full-time and 17000 part-time learners. The district operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools plus a number of additional facilities.

Burnaby School District invites applications from certified Technology Education teachers effective September 2025 for a 1.0 full time position at Byrne Creek Secondary School . Position includes Industry Trades Training program (Construction and Electrician) Woodwork Metalwork Electronics/Robotics.

Technology Education involves the ability to combine an empathetic understanding of the context of a problem creativity in the generation of insights and solutions and critical thinking to analyze and fit solutions to the context. To move from design to final product or service requires skills and technology. Skills are the abilities gained through competence to do something and to do it increasingly well. Technologies are tools that enable human addition the course is designed to teach students a hands-on approach to learning. Students start learning the basic skills that can lead to careers in Trades and junior grades students will be introduced to safe use of machines while creating a variety of exciting projects. Courses are designed to give the students a basic knowledge and the ability to continue into the senior courses.

Required Qualifications:

Technology Education: Secondary Focus

  • Possess a valid BC teaching certificate; or eligible to teach with letter of permission through Ministry of Education.
  • A Bachelor of Education degree (Technology or Industrial Education concentration) or academic equivalent.
  • Industrial education courses equal to 33 units which are relevant to prescribed curriculum including appropriate teaching methodology courses for the assignment.
  • Applicants must have Red Seal Electrician certification.

Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary Range: $59711 to $109942 per annum based on Teachers Salary Grid
  • Position will be offered a Continuing Contract upon commencement of position.
  • Placement on salary scale will be determined by years of experience and qualifications in accordance collective agreement.
