Job Duties

$5000.00 Sign On Bonus for eligible new hires - $5000 split payment $2500 payable within 30 days of hire and $2500 payable after successful completion of employee probationary period.

Provides day-to-day supervision to probationers who require both intensive and regular probation/parole/post-release supervision. Assesses the criminogenic and treatment needs of the probationer. Actively applies evidence based practices including effective communication skills principles and techniques to promote internal change within the probationer. Collaborate with probationer district and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans. Make home and community contacts in accord with case needs and supervision plans; prepare Pre-sentence Investigations sentencing guidelines and other reports as assigned in a timely manner; testify and provide sentencing recommendations to the court/attorney.

The position is located in the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) northern pay band area and the hiring range listed includes a $4000 pay differential associated with this District Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable experience as a sex offender supervision specialist in a Probation & Parole District. Considerable experience of sex offender treatment methods social casework and supervision with sexual offenders. Working knowledge of civil commitment laws and conditional release supervision in the community. Demonstrated experience and competence with Global Positioning System (GPS) installation and monitoring. Demonstrated ability to lead the work of other professional staff; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to interact with offenders and the public; to organize
and implement casework services; to initiate independent actions and carry out assignments with minimal supervision; to intervene in crisis situations; and to develop and maintain good interagency relationships. Skilled in interviewing

Completed the required academy courses for a sex offender supervision specialist. Prefer knowledge of Evidenced Based Practices current sex offender treatment methodology and knowledgeable of the post-conviction sex offender polygraph. Valid Virginia Drivers License.

Additional Considerations

Bachelors Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology Sociology/Social Work Criminology English with minor in other areas such as: Adult Education Business Administration (especially Personnel Management) Administration of Justice and Public Safety. Skilled in Microsoft Office products including Word Excel and Outlook.
