Title:Custodial Supervisor
Position Purpose: The Custodial Supervisor position at Bates College is responsible for the supervision of an assigned custodial team including lead custodians and front line custodians to perform the duties and responsibilities of providing a clean and safe campus and building environment for Bates College students faculty staff and visitors. This position may be considered Essential Personnel in the event that: - An emergency occurs on the Bates campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates
- Inclement weather forces the closing of campus
- Or other emergency events deemed appropriate.

Job Duties: Administrative Management - Schedules assigns and monitors all work for the team holding self and team members accountable to high standards of performance and compliance with cleaning service levels by providing timely and specific performance feedback.
- Evaluates the performance of assigned staff; completing performance management that includes goal setting and periodic performance reviews.
- Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to professional behavior positive morale creativity and teamwork. Demonstrates professionalism at all times regardless of the behavior of others.
- Ensures employee adherence to department uniform policy and all safety rules and guidelines in performance of duties. Ensures accurate and timely completion of the first report of injury forms in the event of workplace injury.
- Interviews selects and trains qualified staff to meet department productivity and service expectations.
- Maintains department morale through programs recognizing staff for exceptional productivity and customer service.
- Completes quality assurance inspections and conducts customer rounds to obtain feedback on conditions. Monitors and collects data providing updates and reports to Custodial Services Manager and departmental leadership.
- Maintains confidentiality and respects the privacy of all developing and maintaining a culture of trust and accountability. Acts with honesty and transparency modeling behavior that is consistently honest and ethical.
- Ensures employees have adequate resources and training to perform cleaning duties to expected service levels. Ensure completion of assigned required LMS computer based training and coordinate needs for assistance with training.
- Coordinate with campus partners for language translation needs for employees who speak a language other than English as a primary language.
- Addresses issues of non-performance effectively leveraging assistance from Human Resources as needed. Rewards positive performance and celebrates accomplishments as well as recommends transfers reassignments discipline terminations promotions and other employment actions as appropriate.
- Works with Dining Conferences and Campus Events (DCCE) management and directly with customers to coordinate college events.
- Works with Event Management System (EMS) application to obtain needs for events and ensure custodial responsibilities are completed properly.
Custodial Responsibilities - Provides oversight for swimming pool operations including cleaning testing and chemical treatment as well as monitoring and reporting any concerns with mechanical systems.
- Shovels snow from assigned building entrances and walkways. Spread salt and sand as needed in winter conditions. Coordinates snow operations for assigned team members including providing feedback and communicating with Grounds Manager during storms.
- Identifies facility deficiencies for repair through the work order system. Inspects and evaluates physical condition of plant; submits recommendations for painting repairs furnishings and maintenance. Manages and assigns work orders to team members daily for completion and assures proper labor reporting and documentation takes place.
Additional Responsibilities - Remains competent and current in duties by attending occasional training or professional development courses or conferences.
- Carries two-way radio and cell phone. Must be available for occasional support and assistance to staff during after-hours calls and emergencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Education - High school diploma or GED.
- Associates degree preferred.
- The equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
Experience - 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a custodial environment.
- Previous supervisory experience preferably in an educational setting.
- Experience in operating mechanical cleaning equipment required.

- Knowledge of personnel management supervision and staff training.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions in the conduct of the job.

- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
- Ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality and sensitivity to privacy.
- Ability to run reports using basic data management systems and basic computer applications (e.g. Word and Excel).
- Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
- Ability and willingness to work weekends evenings on-call and other non-traditional schedules.
