Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Great opportunity for an innovative solution oriented leader to utilize the full capability of USDA meal program to innovate and create solutions that have a positive impact on the communities served through our food programs. Candidate will manage all phases of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and will ensure both programs operate in accordance with the Alabama Department of Education (ALSDE) and USDA program guidelines and requirements. The Director of Community Feeding and Engagement will develop organize and implement high quality nutrition-focused YMCA food programs that meet all regulations and standards. The Director will lead the YMCAs community feeding and engagement programs that serve over 500000 meals to over 35 YMCA and community partner sites with a budget over $1 million.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Directs and supervises food programs to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Establishes new programs and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Increase the community impact and engagement of feeding programs through the expansion of CACFP and SFSP sponsorship for the YMCA and other community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program and staffing budget to meet fiscal objectives. Responsible to the annual budget and monthly forecasts for Food Service Department.
  • Oversee operation strategy and vision for the Brown Bag Bus Program.
  • Develops SFSP and CACFP training materials for site based personnel
  • Manages and develops SFSP & CACFP recordkeeping systems for sites
  • Communicates regularly with site based personnel to make adjustments to daily meal orders
  • Submits weekly meal orders to vendor
  • Reviews Household Income Eligibility Statement (IES) Forms to determine participant eligibility for CACFP
  • Submits meal totals for reimbursement to Alabama State Department of Education
  • Recruits hires trains develops schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed including staff monitors.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Selects recruits and monitors sites
  • Provides on-going training to site based personnel on engaging children during mealtimes
  • Representative at all CACFP (Child & Adult Food Program) & SFSP (Summer Food Service Program) trainings annually as required by the state food programs.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Visits food program sites often ensures compliance with program requirements determines need and follows through on any identified corrective action.
  • Responsible for identifying and engaging site locations coordinating activities and resolving all issues related to new site development and for working closely with key staff to develop and execute marketing and outreach for all program sites
  • Processes invoices to verify correct billing from vendor
  • Works with Marketing Department to promote the Ys Feeding Programs and Initiatives.
  • Develops and manages communication channels with YMCA staff volunteers donors and community stakeholders to increase awareness and support for the work of the YMCA
  • Develops Request for Proposal Scope of Services for vendor contracts and manages procurement process per federal guidelines.
  • Responsible for developing sponsors food quality standards and for working collaboratively with vendor to develop menus for all meals in accordance with Healthy Eating & Physical Activity (HEPA) standards.
  • Attends day camp and association wide trainings as the meal program expert
  • Works with vendors to ensure contract compliance and program quality.
  • Liaison with vendor and sites to adjust meal delivery numbers and check/approve vendor invoices.
  • Completes applications submitted to ALSDE for approval.
  • Conducts feedback sessions with site personnel to determine food satisfaction and provides responses to the vendor
  • Verifies site eligibility for CACFP and SFSP
  • Responsible for Feeding Program vehicles and equipment
  • Forge relationships and represent YMCA at strategic community-based coalitions and organizations.
  • Submits amendments to the SFSP and CACFP applications to ALSDE for approval
  • Develops close and cordial working relationships with ALSDE staff responsible for the SFSP the CACFP and the Procurement and Compliance processes.
  • Represent the sponsor at in collaborations such as No Kid Hungry the Heart of Alabama Food Bank YUSA Food Program share sessions and Food & Research Action Center (FRAC) monthly conference calls.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates with site based personnel to provide meals for one day events
  • Develops curriculum that promotes healthy eating practices and physical activity

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree required Masters preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years working in administrative/management role with grant-funded programs.
  • Understanding and ability to interpret state and federal guidelines and regulations preferred; experience in monitoring and evaluating grant-funded programs preferred; experience in creating and implementing corrective action plans policies and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to create organizational structures that assist in managing multiple sites and maintaining program data.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong Understanding and experience including but not limited to Child and Adult Care Food Program and Summer Food Service Program (CACFP & SFSP)
  • Sharp business acumen and financial projection
  • Working knowledge of software specific to the industry
  • Prefer experience with tracking billing computer data entry and excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds abilities opinions and perceptions
  • Proficient use of computers with working knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail accuracy and meeting deadlines. Good judgment and discretion
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in an effective way in the community
  • Ability to handle complaints and resolve issues with tact and diplomacy
  • Valid Alabama drivers license and own vehicle for transportation.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish a plus
CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAININGS:
  • Current CPR AED and First Aid or within 30 days of hire
  • Required YMCA safety trainings
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job the Director of Community Feeding and Engagement is required to sit stand walk drive talk hear and comprehend. The Director of Community Feeding and Engagement may be required to work outside of traditional hours to accomplish job requirements. Employee must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
