Software Engineering Intern

Applying to this job you will be considered for one of the following engineering specializations based on your experience interest and business need:

1. Backend Infrastructure: You will design and develop the core infrastructure that powers our IoT platform which connects over 15000 hardware assets and is used by tens of thousands of customers globally. This role focuses on scaling our data ingestion and storage systems to handle the growing volume of connected devices. Youll collaborate with engineers across the company to make new types of data analysis possible.
2. Full-stack Frontend: You will create user interfaces that transform data from millions of devices into intuitive actionable insights. Working closely with our design and product teams youll identify and rapidly iterate on solutions. Your projects could range from developing design systems to performance engineering all with the goal of delivering high-quality impactful features to our customers.
3. Full-stack Backend: You will design and develop features across a wide range of our platform directly impacting both current and future customers. Youll tackle diverse engineering challenges from architecting data structures for massive data collection to building intuitive and high-performing data analytics on web and mobile platforms.
4. Mobile Infrastructure: You will work on the critical infrastructure that supports our React Native application. Your contributions will empower feature teams to iterate quickly and write performant maintainable code helping us deliver a seamless mobile experience to our users.
5. Embedded Software: You will design develop and maintain all on-device software for Samsaras hardware products. This includes everything from edge AI models and multimedia frameworks to low-level power management and real-time data processing building software that runs reliably in tough real-world conditions. This role involves collaborating with backend ML and hardware engineers to create seamless device-to-cloud experiences. Your work will directly drive innovation across Samsaras IoT ecosystem.

We use Golang for our backend Typescript and React for our web client GraphQL to fetch data from our backend and React Native for our mobile app. Direct experience with this stack is not required but experience with similar technologies is strongly encouraged.

Minimum requirements for the role:

• You will complete a Bachelors degree in Computer Science Mathematics Software Engineering Physics or Data Science between Spring/Summer/Fall 2027 or Winter 2028.
• This internship can be a remote or in-person hybrid requiring 3 days per week in our San Francisco CA office and 2 days working remotely.
• Relocation assistance is provided for this role if in-person is chosen.

An ideal candidate also:

You have a strong technical foundation in computer science fundamentals data structures and algorithms and youre adaptable and versatile ready to tackle challenges across different areas of our technology stack.
• Knows Their Stuff: You have a proven ability to develop production-level software. Youre proficient in at least one of the following areas: Backend Infrastructure Fullstack Frontend or Mobile Infrastructure. Were especially interested in experience with Golang Python Typescript and React.
