Carilion Clinic the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) and the Department of Medicine are seeking a Chief of Cardiology to lead the regions largest team of Cardiologists and advanced practitioners.
Our flagship facility Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is a 763-bed medical center and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in southwestern Virginia serving 1 to 1.5 million residents. We have more than 30 ACGME-accredited residencies and fellowships with 350 trainees. The Cardiology fellowship has 18 trainees with additional Intervention and structural fellowships and a planned electrophysiology fellowship. The supporting internal medicine residency has 72 trainees. As a physician-led multi-specialty not-for-profit healthcare system based in Roanoke Carilion Clinic operates 7 hospitals 264 outpatient clinics and employs 850 physicians representing more than 85 specialties. In July 2025 we open the Crystal Spring Tower home to the new Carilion Cardiovascular Institute (CVI). This state-of-the-art building features 3 EP and 6 Cath Labs 7 Cardiovascular Operating Rooms 76 inpatient ICU/PCU beds 46 pre/post-care beds MRI CT and additional testing along with an expanded advanced heart failure clinic. We are committed to pioneering a new era in cardiovascular health by building knowledge through research and education.
The Chief will oversee Cardiology faculty recruitment mentoring and development across the system as well as support the clinical and research training of fellows residents and medical students from VTCSOM. Our cardiologists staff 5 Carilion hospitals and have numerous outpatient sites throughout southwestern Virginia. The Chief is supported administratively by a seasoned Cardiology Senior Director and the VP of the Cardiovascular Institute.
Candidates must be board-certied in Cardiology have at least 5 years of experience as an academic faculty management or leadership experience that would qualify for the rank of Associate or full Professor a record of scholarship and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
