POSITION: Substitute School Nurse (per diem)
JOB GOAL: To create and maintain a health services program in the Nauset Public Schools which fosters the development of a sound mind in a healthy body of every student providing an optimal opportunity for academic success and life-long achievement. To achieve said goals the school nurse will promote health and safety intervene with actual and potential health problems provide case management services and actively collaborate with others to meet all students needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
- A bachelors or masters degree of nursing
- Experience as a Registered Nurse in a child health community health or other relevant clinical nursing setting. Prior experience as a pediatric nurse and/or school nurse preferred
- Current CPR certification
REPORTS TO:Director of Health and Wellness Services
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides assistance to primary building school nurse to support the responsibilities and management of the health office.
- Provides first aid emergency care and nursing procedures for injuries illnesses and mental health needs for the school population in a safe competent and effective manner.
- Administers and/or supervises the administration of medication to students according to district protocols and state regulations including delegation as appropriate.
- Organizes and implements annual mandated screenings (vision hearing height/weight postural and SBIRT) according to grade level as required by MA DPH; carries out appropriate referrals and follow-up.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary school and district staff including (but not limited to) RNs LPNs (where assigned) counselors school psychologists administration teachers interpreters administrative assistants food service and custodians.
- Maintains accurate timely and thorough documentation through an electronic health record.
- Counsels and/or educates students concerning medical issues.
- Monitors and follows up on compliance with state immunization and physical exam requirements and completes required annual reports.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality with respect to student and staff medical and personal information in accordance to FERPA regulations; shares information with appropriate school personnel as needed to maintain student safety.
- Observes all health regulations policies protocols and procedures of the district DPH and DESE.
- Works with community agencies physicians and other health care providers as necessary.
- Communicates and collaborates with families regarding the health status and needs of their children.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Health Services Executive Director of Student Services and Social Emotional Learning and the building principal.
