The Department of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC seek a physician scientist as the next Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition who will boldly lead the Division into the next sustained era of accomplishment and impact the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology on a global scale. The individual will lead the nationally ranked Division which includes a network of clinical centers comprising the UPMC Digestive Health Care UPMC Center for Liver Care Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute as well as a large research portfolio through the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the VA Pittsburgh Health System.
Ranked among the top Digestive Disease Centers in the nation by U.S. News and World Report (2024) the Division has multiple interdisciplinary Centers of Excellence in pancreatology inflammatory bowel disease neurogastroenterology and GI motility hepatology and transplant medicine womens digestive health and intestinal health and nutritional support.
The Division currently consists of 63 faculty 18 gastroenterology fellows two advanced fellows in transplant hepatology with additional advanced fellowship slots in therapeutic endoscopy and inflammatory bowel disease.
In 2024 the University of Pittsburgh ranked 6th in NIH funding while the Department of Medicine ranked 9th nationally among internal medicine departments for NIH grant support with over $160 million in extramural research funding.
