What Are We Looking For

  • Position Title Occupational Therapist
  • Job Type Part-Time Term (Sept. 1 2025 to May 31 2026) 24 hours/week

  • Reports to Manager Integrated Support Services


Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and adaptable Occupational Therapist to provide trauma-informed family-centered services that support functional recovery independence and housing stability for families experiencing homelessness. This role involves assessment intervention and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to help families develop the skills and strategies needed for safe shelter living and successful transitions to stable housing.


What Youll Do

  • Conduct assessments and promote participation in valued occupations including activities of daily living (ADLs) sensory/emotional regulation parenting under stress child development and community/work/school re-engagement.
  • Adapt interventions to meet diverse cultural norms family structures and trauma histories.
  • Build capacity for independent living by addressing immediate safety needs and long-term skill development.
  • Recommend adaptive tools and environmental modifications (e.g. mobility aids self-care tools sensory supports ergonomic solutions) to enhance safety and readiness for housing transitions.
  • Collaborate with shelter staff and external partners to address barriers to tenancy participation and functioning to support sustainable housing.
  • Contribute to family goal planning and consult on creating inclusive developmentally friendly environments.
  • Support program development and provide systems-level recommendations that promote meaningful occupational participation for families.
  • Deliver one-on-one or group education on stress management parenting and chronic condition self-management.
  • Assist families in navigating health housing and community services to build sustainable support networks.
  • Maintain accurate confidential documentation and uphold ethical anti-oppressive and culturally humble practice.


This position description reflects the general duties of the role but is not intended to include all duties that may be inherent in the position. The Occupational Therapist may be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.


What You Bring to Our Mission

  • Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists.
  • Skilled in and dedicated to trauma-informed strengths-based and culturally responsive care.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity cultural humility and Indigenous reconciliation.
  • Experience in community health mental health or shelter-based settings preferred.
  • Experience supporting individuals across the lifespan including children and families affected by complex social factors.
  • Recent experience in assessing for adaptive equipment and environmental modifications.
  • Familiarity with housing healthcare and community support systems.
  • Strong interpersonal organizational and collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is required.
  • ASIST and Crisis De-Escalation certification is an asset (or willingness to obtain).
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced shelter setting.
