Job Description

Saint Josephs College of Maine is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled individual for the full-time position of IT Systems and Support Engineer.

In this pivotal role you will be a cornerstone of our Information Technology Team and technical operations ensuring the stability performance and security of the Colleges IT infrastructure. You will be responsible for providing expert-level technical support to our faculty staff and students while also contributing to the administration and maintenance of our core systems and network. This position is ideal for a proactive problem-solver who thrives on technical challenges in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional service in a dynamic academic environment.

Minimum Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • A combination of at least 5 years of progressive experience and relevant education in Information Technology preferably within an educational or service-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting end-users and administering systems in a professional environment. Experience in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or similarly fast-paced setting is highly desirable.
  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CompTIA A/Network Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator MCSA CCNA or ITIL Foundation are a significant asset.
  • Strong understanding of computer hardware operating systems (Windows macOS Linux) and common software applications.
  • Familiarity with network fundamentals including TCP/IP DNS DHCP and VPN technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with educational technology platforms and learning management systems (LMS).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and experience implementing security measures.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools to streamline IT support tasks.
  • Previous experience working in an academic institution or similar educational services environment.

Supervision and Scheduling Demands:

No supervisory responsibilities. General office hours are Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30. Full-time 40 hour per week position. Available to attend on-site meetings training as well as work during peak periods that will include evenings and occasional weekend hours in the event of infrastructure outage. This job is 100% onsite.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Operating Systems: Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Windows (10/11) and advanced proficiency with macOS and Windows Server (2016).
  • Networking: Advanced knowledge of network troubleshooting and core protocols (TCP/IP DNS DHCP). Previous experience administering/managing networks is a plus.
  • Systems Management: Hands-on experience with Active Directory/LDAP Group Policy familiarity with cloud identity providers (Entra ID/Azure AD/GWS) as well as management of collaboration platforms (365/GWS)
  • Automation: Practical experience with AI scripting languages particularly PowerShell for automation and system administration and or RMM automation polices.
  • IT Tools: High proficiency with IT Service Management (ITSM) ticketing systems Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) and Remote Access Tools (RAT).
  • Endpoint Management: Strong working experience with MDM solutions and Apple School Manager and or Intune.
  • Must demonstrate teamwork skills and a willingness to help others
  • Possess a positive attitude to foster a cohesive working environment
  • Strong communication: both verbal and written and organizational skills needed
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to meet project deadlines and manage system problems escalating when needed
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong critical thinking analyzing and developing skills
  • Ability to concentrate and follow through on all assignments to completion
  • Demonstrated customer service skills for dealing with all levels of clients
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Tolerates work related stress effectively and maintains self-control/professionalism
